Title: Thoughts on Plants
Post by: Chadzilla on October 07, 2002, 04:46:16 PM
The Pod People are coming to the Boards!  Or so says a newspaper article I read this morning.  These are posters that simply drum up interest by posting links or comments about movies or related media on the Boards, they are advertisers disguised as fans trying to pull a new Blair Witch style buzz on.

Now being an Old Fart (and understanding that advertising is nothing new).  Still I feel a little used, its kinda of like John Carpenter The Thing Pop Up style.  Maybe I'm just paranoid.  Maybe you are all just plants and waiting for me to go to sleep!

How do you all think about this, some of the comments I read recently by some newish sounding posters sounded way too much like advertisement rather than a fan's eager to discuss opinion...

Come on my Fellows, help me!

YOU'RE NEXT!  YOU'RE NEXT!

Anything's possible [drink Coke], but when you consider how many bulletin boards there are out there [eat Spam], it's hard to imagine that they could have any appreciable effect.

Marketers are always looking for a new gimmick[grow Rhododendrons], but rarely does anything turn up that will shake the industry.  [brush with Colgate] A better way to spend their time/dollars would be to produce better trailers and posters[visit scifilm.org] than the crap they've been foisting on us for the past few years.

If I see yet another theatrical trailer that gives away the whole plot of the damn movie, I'm going to scream!

[why do I feel dirty all of a sudden?]

I noticed some time ago that it seems posts of "Help me find this movie" (here and at the IMDB) often follow a movie's rerelease on DVD.  Interesting, no?

You should feel glad that you are considered worth the attention :)

I've made comments on new films, and approaching films before, and I'm not a plant.  I just get excited about some of the films.

This doesn't mean I don't want to be a plant.

I can be bought.

Cheap, too.

Cullen, who's wondering if anyone's heard of this great little flick called Battlefield: Earth?   I hear that it doesn't cause people's intestines to explode.

Much.

You mean all we have to do is mention a film and it gets released?

Desperately wants an enhanced DVD with commentary and interviews for the classic  Motel Hell.
