Title: Speaking of Alien Ressurrection...
Post by: Grimsnipe on October 09, 2002, 02:26:37 AM

You know, no matter how many times I see the movies I STILL don't get the whole "Christy's death" scene.  (Course, I don't get why a black guy would call himself "Christy" but that's another story.)  Anyway, here's the scene if you don't remember, Christy, the fellow with the Taxi Driver style gun attachments on his arms is injured with some acid blood on his face (although despite an initial burn it doesn't seem to affect him much.)  The crippled guy is attached to his back and hanging onto the ladder for dear life (him and Christy got switched around during the fight.)  A dead alien is hanging onto to Christy's foot, threatening to pull him and the dwarf fellow down, so Christy undoes his buckles and falls into the water below, and the audience assumes he's dead.  (And since he never shows up again, I guess they're right.)

Er... I dunno, IIRC, he only falls like twenty feet or so back into the water.  Couldn't he have just pulled the alien hand off his foot underwater and then climb back up?  Or even if the alien had a death grip on him, couldn't he have taken off his shoe?  I don't know, maybe I missed something in the movie, but it seems he could have surived that...

I guess you could say the acid was contining to burn through his face, but we don't really see any evidence of that.  Am I the ONLY that thought this scene was weird?  Just curious...

I thought the exact same thing when I first saw it also!  It's as though he just gave up.  A totally unnecessary death.  Personally if it were me in his shoes I'd try to take as many aliens with me as I could.  I wouldn't die in vain.
