Title: "Freddy's Dead"
Post by: Fearless Freep on October 15, 2002, 10:32:21 AM
Well, last night's entertainment was "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare"  Or it could've been titled "Freddy: Live At The Comedy Club".  A guess the basic plot is Freddy wants off Elm Street so he can head to Vegas as a comedy act.

This was bad, this was very bad.

The  only real good part of the whole movie was some of the special effects were pretty good.   That's pretty much it.  Oh, and seeing Robert Englund without makup playing a pre-death Freddy was pretty cool

Something about the feel and look of this movie reminded me of the episode of  The Twilight Zone movie; the one with the kid with special powers that terrorizes the 'family'.  It had some of the same cartoony-violence feel (as well as the idea of a whole bunch of people living with Freddy, who are afraid of him). The biggest difference was that The Twilight Zone part was not playing for laughs and was actually much scarier .  Thhe whole vidoe game scene was pretty silly (and in one bad shot you could see the brace holding up the kid bouncing around)

This particular time around, the writer(s) have added a whole bunch of new aspects to who Freddy is and what he can do that are at odds with the rest of the series, and which don't really work too well.  The part about the demons tha give Freddy his dream power, about Freddy being stuck in one town (where he's killed all the kids)..  They set this one 'ten years later' where a lot has changed and there is no explanation for how we got from one point to another.  There's a whole plethora of areas to explore about why nothing made sense that I'm not going to bother to go into

The movie was pretty disjointed as it bounced around from scene to scene.  I'm not sure how they got Rosanne and Tom Arnold in for cameo's, but it was a bad idea.   Not that they were bad, but having such recognizable faces in a see of nobodies really broke  up any tension of the moment, breaking the flow of the movie.

Anyway, one for completeness sake, but for no other redeemable reason

A very fun movie.

If you wish, you can play the Freddy's Dead Stay Sober Game.  Every time Lisa Zane manages to emote, chug an entire bottle of your favorite liquor.

(Hint: Don't bother breaking out the liquor.)

Yeah,Freep, you're right about this one, which highly displayed that the later Freddy sequels were badly falling apart around this time(1991),and that it as time to put Freddy temporarily to sleep(as it was for Jason with "Jason Goes To Hell").
At least the 3-D ending pretty much made up for the rest of this otherwise shoddy movie.

Your absolutely correct about the comedy part. The movie was quite funny whether it was intentional or not and I am actually able to forgive any faults this movie had because of that. It's also great to see homage to the Power Glove outside of The Wizard.
