Title: The Ring review and ASHTHECAT
Post by: Evan3 on October 20, 2002, 02:54:30 PM
Hey,
I saw the Ring and I would give it a B-. It is definitely better than most of the crap that is out there today and I would say probably the best new horror movie since Pitch Black, Blair Witch Project, John Carpenters Vampires or Dracula 2000. It goes slow at some parts, and it has a lot of unexplained blood. However, the beginning is phenomonal, the makeup is great and the ending is truly surprising and it even involves the audience at the end (come on you guys the 6th Sense was predictable, I wasnt fooled by it honest and I am pretty gullible). So, I say it is worth the insane movie ticket price (it is definitely better on the big screen). It is a MUST rent. I dont know if I would by it.

Also in my last post, I praised this movie called The Faculty starring Elijah Woods, the T-1000 (cant remember his name), and Josh Hartnett when he was still cool (AKA before Pearl Harbor) and of course various hot girls and one who wasnt. It was an inventive movie with fun effects and definite creepy effects. The ending wasnt the best, but it definitely had some classic scenes, suck as the paper cutter. However, someone disagreed

Ashthe cat said: The Faculty was CRAP! Plain & simple! I wasted my money when I went to see this in the theater. Robert Rodriguez definitely dropped a bomb with that one!!

I dare him to name a better alien invasion movie in the past 10 years *key word invasion* I dare anyone. Unless you really liked Independence Day or Men in Black 2, I cant think of any. I would say the Faculty is GREAT and was surely not a waste of money. American Psycho was a waste of money (thankfully I didnt pay to see it).

You're entitled to your opinion and it was duly noted however I'm not going to change my mind about "The Faculty".  The entire time while sitting in the theater I kept thinking to myself, "when is this going to start getting good!!??"  It never did.  I mean it has some ok moments but I found the film as a whole rather dull.  Interesting premise though.

Evan, who was the non-hot chick? Because if you're trying to say that Clea DuVall (who played the "goth" chick, the Heinlein-fan, named STOKELY) isn't a goddess, then you are simply GAY.

She's not bad looking at all.  They only make her look terrible in most of the films she's in on purpose because with all of that  makeup she really DOES look bad.  She always seems to be typecast as a goth b***h with an attitude (She's all That etc...)  I bet she cleans up very nice!  Let us remember boys that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  A girl that I think is a total dog could be the girl of your dreams and vice versa.

No, Clea DuVall is GAY. She plays a lesbian in every movie she's in. Coincidence? But some people like total skanks. here are people that think Madonna and the chick from Ginger Snaps are gorgeous. They are probably legally blind.

"The faculty" the best invasion movie of the last ten years?! It is quite sad to realise absolutely nobody has seen David Twohy's "The arrival" (AKA "Shockwave"). Can't believe "Pitch black" is so well known while this little film has remained underrated. And what about "They live"? It was made less than ten years ago, right?

I agree with Neville!  (mark that on your calendars again!)  "The Arrival" with Charlie Sheen is an excellent film.  I always have wondered what it'd feel like to stand in that alien "identity changer device" as my face was pulled & twisted into another form.  "They Live" is even better!  It does have it's slow moments but overall I found it very enjoyable.

A reasonably good movie, but it overdoes the environmentalist message. I found it as preachy as a bad episode of Quincy.

I must continue to agree with Andy C
The arrival was good, but the plot twists were pretty predictable for sure. The Faculty is simply better. But, I will also agree to disagree. As long as you like the Ring ASH im good.  now im reall intrigued by this other movie, whats it about??

I seem to recall her looking fairly normal in the Creature Features movie How to Make a Monster.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that she was gay, but I can't seem to find any confirmation of this on the net, just rumors.

I got the impression that it simply covered the subject in fake skin.
