Title: Comedy fan-film!
Post by: Mr.E on October 20, 2002, 09:17:36 PM
Remember me. I was making a stoner comedy and asked the board for any ideas. Thanks all who replied. It's coming along great! But I have a few questions for anyone that can help:
1) Anyone know what the "stunt dope" used in Cheech and Chong movies really are? A member of my cast refuses to smoke the real weed
2) Anyone know any sick pranks that would fit a movie like this. Remember the laxative cocoa from Dumb&Dumber? Sumthin' cool like that
3) Keep adding ideas! I want this to be the 1st actually funny fan-film!

Peace

1) I dunno about stunt dope, but it's probably a good idea to not have ANYBODY smoke the real weed. Why? Because they'll forget their lines (unless this is going to be an improv movie, which it probably will be), and f**k up everything they're supposed to do in that scene. Want to make it seem like they're getting stoned without actually SHOWING them smoking? Behind-the-head shots of the joint going towards their face, and have a pump filled with smoke underneath the table with a tube attached to it, placed near their mouth (it SHOULD work).

2) Hmmm...sick pranks? Hmmm...how about a guy's mad at this real prick, and he's baking said prick a chocolate cake, so he takes a s**t into a bowl, mushes it up real good, and then coats the cake with the s**t-frosting?

3) Booyah.

love the s**t-cake idea. i was thinking we should just improv alot even if we have stunt weed. I like comedy that feels improvised in movies.

No clue, but if you need fake joints just roll one using tobacco. If you want something to show in a baggy, how about tobacco dyed with a little food coloring? Or maybe the contents of some herbal cigarettes (no, not THAT kind of herb!). I've read the cigarettes the smoking man smoked in the X-Files were herbal because he didn't want to get addicted to them. Not sure how much the contents resemble weed though.

How about feeding someone something containing that stuff they use to induce vomitting, Ipecak, I think it's called? Or how about itching powder on someone's toilet paper which takes a little while to take effect? Or maybe something burning like ground hot pepper?

RE: Stunt Dope

Oregano supposedly looks a lot like weed. But then I wouldnt know that, I don't know what oregano looks like.

^Didn't something like that happen in the making of the Evil Dead?

"I like comedy that feels improvised in movies."

^Can be good, but then there's good comedy that seems spontaneous but isnt and a lot of very bad improvised comedy.

I'm curious to the legality of that.  Doesn't seem like a good idea to have video circulating of you smoking a contraband substance.

Anyway, if you want fake stuff, this company (http://www.hotboxcentral.com/ecomm/itmidx1.htm) has been hawking their herbal substitute for years.  A fool and his money are soon parted.

Andrew did refuse to review a movie that had vandalism in it on the grounds that illegal activity was a deal-breaker for getting a movie reviewed.  May want to ask him ahead of time how he feels about it.

It's that green stuff you can put on your pizza. Looks like weed, but only if we're not talking nuggets of weed.

In the scene where they're all drinking around the dinner table, they drank too much and were slurring their words.

Yep. Good scenes that aren't improv: everything by Trey Parker, and Ghostbusters seems improv at times by Murray but wasn't.
