Jonathan Harris passed away Sunday from a blood clot to his heart:( You may be suprised to know that at 89 years old he was still acting, doing voice overs and working on a new "Lost in Space" made for tv movie. Memorial services are today (Wednesday) at West Hills Memorial Park, Los Angeles.."the pain....the pain":)
Dang. One of the great voices,Too. I loved the line in "A bugs life" that was written for him..which i can't remember at the moment...D'oh!...but i bet you all caught it.
As a sinister villain or as a lovable screwup, Dr. Smith was always my favourite character on Lost in Space. I knew Harris must be pretty old (he had grey hair and crows feet in the 60s), but 89! Hope I do as well. It's always been good to hear his voice in an occasional cartoon and know he was still working. He was the only good thing about Chanel Umptee 3.
Wish he hadn't turned down his cameo in the Lost in Space movie. In his mind, he was the only true Dr. Smith. After seeing the movie, maybe he was right to stay away from it. Its greatest resemblance to the original show was that it started out very good, then went downhill.
Dang... Dr. Smith was one of my all-time favorite characters. I loved his role as "Professor Jones" on Freakazoid... Gotta love hearing Dr. Smith's reaction to a Gallagher performance.
Yes, he will be missed. Who can beleive he made his motion picture debut with Alan Ladd and James Mason back in the '50's in "Botany Bay."
As a side note, "Biography" has done a biography on him which will be shown on television at the end of November. Most likely Friday, November 27, but, don't hold me to that date. Enjoy!
