I just discovered this site and its message board. Howdy all. I wanted to mention that I've been watching AMC's "Fear Fridays" on weekends, and they're playing some way-out stuff. It's like they bought the TV rights to Joe Bob Briggs's movie library. "Empire of the Ants," "Halloween" sequels, Hammer films, etc. All they need is "The Purple Monster" and I'll be set.
Actually, what they REALLY need is a host. Someone good. Like Shatner on "Full Moon Fright Night." I called them up, and left a message saying Joe Bob Briggs is the man.
Anyway, B-movies are finally back on basic cable. They may not be uncut, but they're still ours. AMC has an 800 number, which they show during the Friday line-up. If you're watching tonight (don't know what the feature is), give those muthas a call! I suggested showing some blaxploitation, some biker movies, all that.
This site is fantastic. Methinks I'll be here often!
I'll call them up and b***h about the hack editing jobs. If a movie has too much violence/sex/nudity/cusswords, then don't show it on your channel. But I expect to see a full movie on a movie channel. This is cable after all, and I'm not sure (in my neck of the woods) that this is part of the most basic cable package.
On a related note, flipping channels the other night, I saw that TNN was showing Showgirls. Why? The nudity was cut out (I didn't hang around to see, but it had to have been) and the movie has no other redeeming feature.
I used to love AMC. But now they show commercials, edit out sex/violence/cursing (the Halloween sequels are weird; they leave in some graphic violence but cut some out), and they don't even show Stooges anymore! TCM is better because they show unedited films in widescreen when possible, but they only show horror and schlock around Halloween. Sci-Fi, USA, TNT, TBS and other cable nets show some prime bad movie material, but they're edited to the point of being unwatchable. If only Ted Turner went even crazier and started a 24-hour B-movie network.
AMC's been annoying me lately. First they start editing their movies, then they put ad breaks in the middle, now they're putting regular ad breaks in. I used to love being able to get commercial-free tapes of stuff like Frankenstein Conquers the World and Lady in a Cage. Plus, they've been showing way too many new movies lately, but that might just be a personal peeve.
Still, you gotta hand it to them for at least trying to play Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, even if they did have to cut out all the nudity.

That is an unintended classic by all means proabably the least effective soft core film ever made. WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOLLOWS-Seriously, I don't think I had a stiffy once during that entire movie (and I'm the kind of guy who has to take those "2 Horny" pills you see at Spencer's).
