Title: MONSTURD REVIEW
Post by: Foywonder on November 26, 2002, 11:28:33 AM
Once again, I dare to take the initiative and boldly go where few dare. My copy of MONSTURD arrived over the weekend and I sat down and watched it and then typed up a review. The surprising thing though for many will probably be where you have to go to read it. I dared the impossible and sent my review of MONSTURD to Ain't It Cool News of all places and, low and behold, they actually dared to post it. WOOHOO!!!! Check it out for yourselves and then tell me you don't want to see MONSTURD for yourself!

Beneath all the praise you can hear the slack jawed shock of Foywonder whispering "I CANNOT believe I'm writing a favorable review of this!!!"

Sounds fun and funny.  Imagine that, a monster parody played more straight than broad...

Someday I will dare to watch it!

I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I'm really intriqued by this Killer Klowns from Outer that you mention. Outer what? Is it a sequel to Killer Klowns from Outer Space? :)

That's odd. I just checked my copy of the text that I wrote in word format and the word "SPACE" is there. I wonder if something happened when transferring the file to the page. Still, it came off better than the MEGIDDO review I did for them last year which was full of typos due to my having written it after having been up for 19 hours, and had numerous breaks and empty spaces in the format because, well, something screwed up royally when they cut and pasted it to the page and didn't bother to fix it.

I thought it was kind of a big typo for you to make. :)

Oh, believe me, I'm always catching typos that I missed after its too late to change it. Strangely enough, this was not one of those occassions. You want a perfect example of how mangled my writing can be when I get sloppy, check out the last paragraph of one of my badmovies.net news reports from last week about the HULK trailer. Something just went horribly wrong with one of those segments and I totally didn't realize it until it was already posted.

Thanks for the review, Scott. I'm glad you enjoyed our little film. For a little perspective, we spent two years on this movie (one year shooting, one year editing). We could have easily made a "crappy" movie that took us a month to shoot and a month to edit, then gotten it into video stores based on the ridiculous title, but we didn't want to go that route. We went out of our way to shoehorn as much production value as we could into it, knowing that if we couldn't sell Monsturd to a distributor, we were going to be stuck with it for the rest of our lives. And if I was going to be stuck with a movie I spent two years on (especially one about a giant killer piece of s**t), it better be one that I don't mind watching over and over again. Anyway, just one small thing; would it be possible to e-mail AICN and have them fix the spelling of my name? It's Rick Popko not Mike Popko. I e-mailed "Moriarty" about it, but he didn't fix it or e-mail me back. Again, thanks for the review!

Sorry again about the name mistake. If only I had a copy editor.

This is something I can't let slip me by.  Where, good sir, did you find this movie?  Is it something like Barn of the Blood Llama in that you have to go directly to the makers to get a copy?

If you can wait, the DVD is coming out April 8th, and will have director's commentary and deleted scenes. But if you want a VHS copy now, there are instructions on the second page of the Web site on how to order one.
