Dear Rob, The Robster, Rob-o-rama,
As as much of a fan as one can be I am asking to stop. Just stop making this hideous crap...The Hot Chick? I mean really what is that its been a downward spiral since Duece Bigalow, which will forever be the apex of the mountain of s**t that is you career. Let us all take a deep breathe and just admit it, Rob, your movie career ended when the credits started rolling at the end of Surf Ninjas.
(sigh)Now i feel much better, and dont get me wrong i think you are a funny guy, Rob. Lets just leave it at supporting roles from now on, ok? Good. Thank you for your time, but i'm afraid i need to go burn a copy of The Animal.
PS.(If Rob were to ever read this...well,I image him crying alone curled up in a fetal position)
Everytime Rob Schneider Makes A Movie, An Angel Loses It's Wings!
Bryce, I hope you've seen the new ep of "South Park"...
Oh, yeah. Rob Schneider Der Da Der Doo Da. I thought Deuce Bigelow was surprisingly decent, but The Animal didn't even try to be funny. There were no jokes. And you know someone's running out of ideas when he pulls out the body-swapping concept. Schneider's career has gone on much longer than it should have (if you ever saw his standup you'd know it should have lasted three days) and I predict he'll be the next Andrew McCarthy. A bleak future, I know.
i liked deuce....the rest was crap
It seems that I'm the odd man out on this thread.
I like most everything Rob Schneider has put out with him in the starring role.
He's kind of a weasel yet he's still likeable.
I haven't seen "The Animal" yet so I have no opinion on that one.
I look forward to seeing "The Hot Chick".
Rob was on Leno the other night and they showed a HILARIOUS pillow fighting clip from it!
I don't think I'll spend the money to see it in the theater though.
I'll wait for it on video.
Keep em' coming Rob!
I liked him as the funny sidekick in "Judge Dredd" and "Knock Off", but haven't seen any of his own career vehicles yet. Are they that bad?
I think Neville hit the nail on the head. Schneider is funnier when he's not starring.
I used to actually use the guy as an example of an SNL alumnus who was doing the right thing. Instead of starring in a few crappy, forgettable comedies, trying to be the next Bill Murray (or something), Schneider seemed to be going the route of a character actor, taking lots of smaller parts in bigger movies. Boy, was I wrong.
Filling a niche, as a particular type of character, he was funny. I liked him in Demolition Man, Knock Off and Judge Dredd. As a comical supporting character in someone else's movie, he's a good fit.
I suppose the SNL virus was sitting dormant in Rob, because he soon made up for lost time. Pity.
It was a matter of time before either I would write a post similar in content to this one, or someone would beat me to it. I agree fully and to the utmost extent. Rob Schneider needs to cease and decist making movies. There is no more I feel that needs to be said. Stop making movies.

I do have to say that he was great in "The Waterboy"
"You can do it!"
You can do it all night long!
Go ahead and pick on Rob Schneider now while he's making childish low-concept
dreck, because you may not be able to get these licks in down the line.
I can remember a nitwit (every bit as goofy looking as Schneider) who had a supporting role in an awful short-lived sit com with a premise as ridiculous as the least coherent Schneider vehicle. He then potty-talked his way through a few low-brow movies that might have made even Mr. Schneider take pause... and now, he is a two-time Oscar winner (nominated more I believe, and will be again this year) who is considered one of the hottest actor in Hollywood (though he remains goofy looking). That man is Tom Hanks.
So laugh at Rob Schneider while you can, because in this Hollywood, ANYTHING can happen.
The problem is this....I AM NOT LAUGHING!!!! ;)

***** That's okay, whenever I see a Spielberg movie I think to myself: "From the director of Schindler's List... and Goonies."
But seriously, was Deuce Bigelow Male Gigilo (which I saw) or The Animal (which I didn't) any worse than Bachelor Party or Dragnet?? True, Schneider's crap seems more extreme than Hanks' crap, but that's only because Schneider's crap was filmed in the post-Something About Mary universe where the bar has been greatly raised.
I will chime in with Squishy on the latest South Park: the Schneider bits were hysterical. They've got the Rob Schneider trailer announcer pegged.
Did anyone else get major "Volunteers" vibes at the end of "Saving Private Ryan" when Hanks was staggering toward the plunger to blow the bridge?
The only problem with your argument is that Hanks was young when he made those movies. He was barely a name in the phone book. What is Schneider now, almost 40? There's a difference in talent when you compare the two, even when you look at their worst films. Hanks was an up-and-comer. Schneider is a going-and-goner.
-Scottie*
Well to be honest Scottie, my argument was made largely in jest... although Hanks didn't make Philadelphia until he was close to or over 40. Remember Bosom Buddies (ugh) was a mid-1970s show and he had to be in his mid-20s at the time.
I also don't think Schneider is quite that old. Nevertheless, I basically agree that Hanks has more inherent talent than Schneider and you can see that even in some of his worst films. I also do not really ever expect to see Rob Schneider playing a concentration camp inmate or a Vietnam War colonel or anything else beyond a loser who gets thrown into a wacky situation with ostensibly hilarious results.
I think the key to your argument is that Schneider's movies all follow that one premise while Hanks' worst movies at least varied in what they were about. Still, I think Hanks was a hair's breadth from Steve Gutenberg country at one point in his career. The Money Pit would have sunk a slightly lesser actor... for good.
Incidentally, did anyone see the Tom Hanks marathon on....i dont remember what channel the other day? They showed bachelor party, volunteers, and the money pit...there may have been more.....i thought all of them were way funnier than a schneider flick...with the exeption of deuce...which was good. he should have taken some time to develop something as good, but instead, quickly churned out the animal...and now this new piece of crap....i dunno why it took him so long, doesnt look like a very "deep" film. But I think that schneider and hanks are two different leagues....schnieder is more like john lovitz, who is great as a character actor, but i cant imagine him with a part any bigger than his in rat race....has he starred in anything that im overlooking?
I know and praise John Lovitz for the role I see the most of him as: Jay Sherman, as TV's The Critic. Lovitz embraces the character of a snobby, lower class film critic so fully, it almost becomes him. I love the show for it's writing, mainly the constant attacks on Hollywood and mock films it creates little clips of that are so satirical of everything in films. The show even went so far as to joke at The Godfather, but not in a mean or insipid manner, only enough to prove that there are no friends in Hollywood. John Lovitz became one of my role models after I discovered and understood The Critic.

p.s.
You all can call me Scott. I only use 'Scottie' because another 'Scott' is already using the handle 'Scott' in his posts.
In response, I'd like to say "The Animal" was at least tolerable, and I really enjoyed the American version of the sitcom "Men Behaving Badly", though I never saw the original British version. You want an actor to pick on, go after Chris Kattan. The one funny thing in his entire career - Mr. Peepers. "Night at the Roxbury" made me sterile.

I thought Kattan did a decent job in the House on Haunted Hill, and I really enjoyed Corky Romano. Can't really comment on his other work.

***** Maybe it's just me, but Mango cracks me the hell up... especially the one with Gwynneth Paltrow. I also laughed through Corky Romano in spite of myself. When he tried to infiltrate the hardcore skinheads wearing a Brittney Spears "Oops I Did It Again" t-shirt, I could not stop laughing.
The worst ever SNL alum to try his hand at movie making: Jim Brewer. "Whoa, man, I'm so stoned." How long did that bit last? One movie?

my favorite would probably be "D.T. : The Drunken Terestrial". ET and elliot sitting there with ET giving an "I love you man" speech. Then he coughs up a cat.
high school high
>Bosom Buddies (ugh) was a mid-1970s show
1980 actually.
>did anyone see the Tom Hanks marathon on....i dont remember what channel

I watched most of Bachelor Party and it was butchered. Not just the usual stuff you'd expect to be missing, but whole scenes missing for no apparent reason. For example, unless I dozed off at some point, they omitted the entire scene with the jerk coming up to the hotel room (Anyone order an a***ole from room service?) to offer his car to Hanks if he'll call off the wedding.
I'm part of my school TV Studio (I'm pretty sure I said that before) but anyway, we make intros before our Announcements Live show. 3 days ago, I did the Best of Franklin Sherman, GREAT GREAT STUFF! it was 3 minutes long
I have to say that I really like Jim Breuer (Brewer? Broo-er?). I wasn't a huge fan of half baked, but i absolutle love his stand-up. His Comedy Central special was hillarious.
Tho, "From what I've heard....." (wink), he's more understandible to stoners.

***** Bachelor Party on TV? That movie without nudity and profanity is kind of like non-alchoholic beer. What's the point?
True, I did forget to mention House on Haunted Hill. All around a good movie, and Kattan did a good job in that, although it was definitely a more "straight" role than his other stuff.
Brother R
The Animal was a really dull movie. Deuce was okay, but after seeing it once I don't feel like watching it again. He's one of those actors that ends up being the butt of all jokes in hollywood. South Park was hilarious the other week because of those jokes.
He's also one of the more popular Filipino actors. He came from a town near my place where theres a lot of Filipinos like me.
ROB,
YOU ARE ONE OF MY HOLLYWOOD FAVORITE ACTORS? BUT NOW YOU'RE ON THE TOP LIST WITH MY FAVE MOVIES SINCE I KNEW YOU'RE MY KABABAYAN, YOU'RE A FILIPINO DESCENT.
GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS.
MABUHAY!!!

Holy crap how long as this thread been dead?
>Holy crap how long as this thread been dead?
8 months, 16 days, 3 hours and 43 minutes.
I was thinking the same thing!
Rafaela must've been bored outta his mind to go digging so deep into past threads!
I guess I'm a goober. I loved "Deuce Bigalow"!
I'll give you credit for" The Animal". Not a bright shining star on his resume no doubt.
I just watched "The Hot Chick" last week. It was okay. There were some funny moments but maybe being a "Hot Chick" myself gave me a little more insight! : )
Holy Forum Necromancy Batman!
Can we add a David Spade open letter to end his career now? Everytime I see the previews for "Dickey Roberts, Former Child Star" I can't reach for the remote fast enough. He's okay to a point in his smarmy, wiseass roles. But once he goes all whiney as he has a tendancy to do, I loathe the little bastard.
Haven't seen "Joe Dirt" and don't want to, being Southern, I can walk down the street or go to my high school reunion and meets plenty of people just like that. Chris Farley's death really screwed up Spade's career. I was never a fan of Farley but I copuld see what people enjoyed of them together.
But as for Rob Schneider, I think I laughed twice at "Deuce Bigalow" and "The Animal" was so pathetic, unfunny, and cheap looking I felt sorry for Ed Asner, a well respected actor, doing such a lousy paycheck flick.
Don't you just hate it when people go around pulling wooden stakes out of dead things.
Anyway, to all those SNL alumni, Animal House worked because, well, because it did. But creating a movie solely on gross out humor does not work. Stop it. Write a story first. Add fart jokes and puking as side dishes, not the main (and only) course.
None of you are John Belushi (and I don't mean it as a put down, he's just different).
"Animal House" worked because it was a satire or parody of a certain slice of American life. It was about something people could relate to, but taken to extremes that maybe people wanted to, but couldn't.
It and "Blues Brothers" worked because they started with good ideas and a funny story and the humour went along with it. They were'nt excuses for juvenile jokes, the juvenile humour worked within the story. Not just an excuse to say "look at me, I'm John Belushi and I'm funny so laugh at me".
"The Animal" SUCKED!

I second that!! What's so weird is how the guys from SCTV, overall, have had more consistently good work than the combined casts of SNL from the last 15 years.
I jerk off to a movie that, coincidentally, stars Rick Moranis.
But I do NOT jerk off to him,nor am I gay.
I enjoy Rob Schneiders movies are silly dumb fun. completely harmless. I keep waiting for featherman to start b***hing about schneider here. he comlaints about everything else.
"The Animal"still sucks.
I'm still trying to figure out which Rick Moranis flick Paul Hotbranch pleasures himself to......
I'm guessing "Little Shop Of Horrors" because of Ellen Greene as human Audrey, the bubble-headed blonde with the lisp and the rather interesting cleavage.
