They have some new shows this month!
And the best so far is an MTV host parody, with a movie parody included. "Tinfins". It takes shots at "Deep blue sea", "Aliens 3", and other stuff. Catch it when you can.
I've been meaning to do a thread on Adult Swim.
My favorite is the opener HOME MOVIES. It just cracks me up week after week.
I also like MISSION HILL a lot. Too bad they seem to have jettisoned it from their regular schedule, as it now shows up only sporadically.
THE BRAK SHOW also cracks me up for being so stupid. I think the only other short I really pay attention too is THE AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE. I see SEALAB, but it never really catches my attention.
THE OBLONGS can be funny, but I can take it or leave it.
The only show I really don't like is THE RIPPING FRIENDS, which Cartoon Network seems to have thrown it's support behind. John K. was funny when he was doing REN & STIMPY, but now it's just muscle men and fart jokes. Not that I'm against a good fart joke, but RIPPING FRIENDS doesn't have any. Jettison this crap and bring back MISSION HILL full time.
Also, I was p**sed that I missed ELTINGVILLE once again. The one week I forget to watch. . .
was it the original episode? or have they made a new one?
Nope, same one. "Bring me the head of Boba Fett".
And it still worries me that i GOT most of the questions in the "Trivia off!".
yeah i got a lot of them too. i took pride in that. then my friends laughed at me.
All of the Adult Swim shows appear to be written by college students who think they're funny because they can reference 80's pop culture and cobble together really strangge stories, a lot like the guys that write The Onion. I laugh every now and then, but after a while it gets monotonous. And what is "Adult" about it? Because every now and again someone will say, "p**sed" or "hell"? Ooh, send the kiddies away!!
They showed or are planning on showing the short film Rejected if any of you haven't seen it...its damn funny, one of the best from Spike and MIke's tour last spring
Ah, Adult Swim. Some of the only TV I watch regularly (though I am a chronic channel-surfer). My favorites are probably Sealab (psychotic radio technician Sparks has become one of my favorite characters on TV) and Home Movies (a vehicle for some damn fine improv-- and made in my own home state!). The Brak Show is good, but I don't like Mom's new voice; she now plays a sort of "anchor of sanity" role, and the best part of the show was that it was completely and utterly insane. I'm not as into the Aqua Teens, but some of their episodes are golden ("Happy Time Harry" was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while).
Mission Hill was a one-season thing; it was produced for the WB, but canned early on, so CN just bought the existing season. Which is too bad, because the show really grew on me. The jokes were pretty hilarious, and most of the characters were genuinely likable. My favorite episode was the one where there's an unspecified, 9/11-like crisis, and Andy's more concerned with getting to his date on time. Oh, yeah, and the episode "Plan 9 From Mission Hill" should be of interest to anyone on this board.
Welcome to Eltingville was written by Evan Dorkin, indie comic guy, creator of the best comics in the world, Milk & Cheese and Dork(comic where Eltingville originated from), I even have a pic in my profile. I want to see more episodes but they only got that one.
I must be the only one that liked Home Movies when it had that shaky look.
I liked the Squigglevision look for Home Movies, too, and was disappointed when they changed it. Of course, I was also a huge Dr. Katz fan.
I haven't read any Milk and Cheese comics, though it's been on my "things to do" list for years. Dorkin was also a principal writer on "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" for several years.
Home Movies was cool in squigglevision but that's not what makes that show great, it's the genius dialouge and terrifingly creepy characters (Coach, Perry and Walter) that makes it soo great.
Oh, I agree completely. I love the bizarre tangents the dialog goes into, especially with Coach McGuirk and Jason (H. Jon Benjamin is a genius). I just kinda miss the old Dr. Katz-y look.
Also, I just gotta say that the finale of the episode where Melissa becomes a "Fairy Princess" and Brendon has to go to that weird kid's house is one of the greatest endings ever.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY MOTHER, BREN-BREN?!"
NOW IS THE TIME TO PAY!
Please please please can someone let me know where to get a sealab 2021 dvd from. I know there on ebay but there not shipping to UK. Help
I dont think there has been any official Adult Swim DVD releases, Id be on them like a hobo on a ham sandwich, so anything on Ebay is most likely a bootleg.
No one has mentioned the show that makes all others look like bastions of sanity:
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law
Makes me laugh til I hurt.
Kirk
YEAH! ADULT SWIM RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-the first rule of fat club-
Sealab and Harvey Birdman are my favorites. Although some of the Sealab epsiodes like the one involving the blackout and that annoying freeform segue loop music episode are only good for one go around, they don't hold up once the novelty wears off.
I so wish they'd crank up the production rate of new episodes of Harvey Birdman. Nothing on Adult Swim makes me laugh so hard or so often. "The Sopranos" spoof, "Unabooboo", the Johnny Quest custody case, and the Scooby Doo episode are already classics as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to see them do stories about Secret Squirrel or Moracco Mole actually being a deep cover sleeper agent and being tried for treason. Or Top Cat on trial for dealing crack in the inner city. Or the Herculoid family being accused of animal cruelty and exploitation.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force has it's moments but Shake gets on my nerves if he dominates an episode too much.
Since CN is willing to co-produce new episodes of shows like "Big O", I wish they would acquire the old episodes of "Invader ZIM", air them, and produce more if it did well. Granted it would be an expensive show to produce compared to stuff like Sealab and "The Brak Show", but that excellent show would make a great fit on Adult Swim IMO and it was given such s**tty treatment by Viacom and Nickelodeon. ZIM might even work on Spike TV's new animation block, although considering the level of humor on the shows there, ZIM might be wasted among such stuff.
it is funny
Actually, Adult Swim DVDs are on the way! The first season sets of Space Ghost and ATHF are due out in November, and the others will doubtlessly ensue.
If you want to give yourself a headache, check out the Adult Swim boards sometime.....endless posts of 13-year old Anime fans about which character can kick whose ass, why isn't [insert show name here] on AS, or about how AS should have more swearing and nudity.
Someone once posted there about why Invader Zim would probably not ever be on Adult Swim, but I can't remember why.
Sealab and ATHF are 2 of the best cartoons out there now i think both of them have blown Space Ghost out of the water i love Coast 2 Coast but ATHF its just too funny i mean any cartoon with Danzig moving into the neighbor has got my support
