So now Hollywood is so bankrupt that they're remaking classic 70's blaxploitation movies. First Shaft, which was watchable but not great, and now Halle Barry has been attached to a Foxxy Brown remake. I don't think that's a smart move. Part of the reason people enjoy those movies is because they were made in the 70's and exuded that style. Revamping them as bloated summer action movies just doesn't seem right.
However, some prospects could be fun. Imagine Three The Hard Way redone with, say, Wesley Snipes in the Jim Kelly role and you might have something there.
They better not try to remake one of the great Bad Horrow Movies I've ever seen: Blackula.
"Heeeeeyy... That's a baaaad cape, Mamowalde!"
- Big Skillet
This is insane! I watched "Foxy Brown" some time ago and the only remarkable things about it are that is not PC at all and that has lots of nudity and violence. Since all this is gonna be lost now, what's the whole point of the operation?
Yeah after watching Swordfish *sudder* there is no way Halle's "talents" could match up with mighty mighty Pam Grier
One of the first movies I remember seeing is "Coffy" starring Pam Grier(not sure what this says about me or my parents). An absolute must see!! Razor blades in the afro, shotgun decapitations, women wrestling in polyester. By gosh and by golly, that's gooooood watchin'. I want to see a remake of "Black Samurai" with the guy from the 7-up commercial! Can I get that please?
Coffy was great. I especially enjoyed the original songs, with lyrics like:
"George.......George........George........He's a pimp........."
Can't remember Coffy's theme exactly, but I think the gist of it was that she's so hot and black.
Unbelievable.
I did a reader review of Foxxy Brown for the site.
Lessons learned-
- Afros can be thick enough to support the weight of a handgun.
- Hard drugs are the new slavery, you dig?
