While we're on the topics of your age and why you have your screen name set the way you do, I figure I'd intrude a little more and ask where everybody is from?
What country are you from?
If you're in the U.S., (I think the great majority of us here are)
what state do you hail from?
I'm from Iowa.
U.S.A.
Born & raised.
No, I don't live on a farm.
I have an additional question for you.
Can you tell a positive story or something specific that happened to you that could've ONLY happed to a person if they lived in THE STATE OR COUNTRY that you live in?
It would add a little spice to your thread.
I'll give you an example:
I went with my girlfriend to the "Field of Dreams" movie site in Dyersville, Iowa.
It's a little over an hour's drive from where I live.
It has been kept EXACTLY as it was in the film.
The house.
The bleachers.
The surrounding cornfield.
Everything.
I tell you this.
There's nothing more joyous than stepping onto that field and up to that plate and batting that ball far out into that field!!
Especially if you've watched the film beforehand.
Just like in the movie, if you look hard enough, you can envision the players emerging from the rows of corn.
That, my friends, is something you should not pass up if you come to Iowa.
It is truly a magical experience!
I've also been listening to alot of Buddy Holly lately.
I've been itching to go up to Clear Lake, Iowa (about 2 hours drive from me) to the Surf Ballroom.
It was the last place he played with the Big Bopper & Ritchie Valance before they were killed in that plane crash so long ago.
They still have shows there.
If they ever have a 50's reunion show there, count me in!!
Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
I'd be careful...I think ASH... is putting together profiles on all the regular board members...

That's fine, I'm not a regular board member anyway ;)
He's writing a book. The Life and Times of a B-Movie Addict.
I'm from Utah. Me and Nathan Shumate are co-statriots.
Lots of movies have been filmed in Utah. I drive by Saltair, the site of the "carnival" in CARNIVAL OF SOULS every day on my way to work.
FWIW - I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A
No, I'm not putting together profiles of everyone here Freep.
Did you smoke some good s**t before you made that post?
Feeling a little"paranoid"?
LOL!!!
Just kidding.
Even though we here on this phorum communicate electronically,
there is still that HUMAN element.
We all know that the words we read on here are physically typed out by a real live flesh & blood person.
Just as I pointed out that when we meet someone we wonder how old they are, we also wonder where they are from.
I do at least and I know I'm not alone.
Where a person is from can possibly tell you a great deal about what kind of an individual they are and what morals and values they were raised with. (not all though)
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. It's a city about 50 miles west of Toronto. Actually, I grew up in a little town north of Waterloo, called Elmira, but I just bought a house in the city.
Hmmm....a story. Could possibly relate a funny experience with Mennonites. They're quite numerous around here.
Better yet, the claim to fame of my home town is that it is recognized by Guinness as having the largest one-day maple syrup festival in the world. I believe about 80,000 people showed up the year they did the count.
This year, I brought my girlfriend to the festival, which was in early April. She'd never been to it before. I had to work, which mainly consisted of snapping pictures of people browsing, eating, etc. While I did this, she carried my extra lenses, all the while jokingly asking what sort of payment she was going to get. I just said "we'll see," which puzzled her.
At the end of the day, when we returned to the car, I made a point of asking for my lenses. She naturally countered with "what are you going to give me for lugging these around."
It was then that I reached into my pocket and pulled out the diamond engagement ring I'd been carrying around all day. You could have knocked her over with a feather.
I was planning to pop the question on a hay ride or a sugar bush tour, but the thing with the lenses offered such a perfect opportunity.
And that's my magical story of the Maple Syrup Festival.
Concord, CA - I have lived my entire life in the San Francisco Bay Area and really don't want to love anywhere else. It's kind of what Maine is to Stephen King. :-)
Just thought I should mention a couple of movie connections from my area. For me, the only redeeming quality of Trapped in Paradise is that it uses a covered bridge a few minutes east of Elmira in West Montrose. The main street of Paradise is actually a village north of there, called Elora. Elora has been used in a few movies, including An American Christmas Carol.
Funny you should mention Maine.....that's me!
He's my story too, I go to the university he went to, and have met him on several occasions, sometimes formally, sometimes shopping....He has a haunted house every year that RULES
According to his website, he DOES NOT have a haunted house.
Go here to his official website to learn THE TRUTH.
Look at the very last post when you view it.

As I have mentioned before, I am from Spain. To be exact, from Lleida, that's in the north-east corner, not too far from Barcelona, were the '92 olympics took place and even closer to a few of the best ski places on the Pirinees. Always lived here, except my early, early chilhood, which I spent living with my grandparents in a nearby village.
Another Canadian here - in Niagara - about an hour and a half south of Toronto (you have to go around the lake) We're actually about 35 minutes from Buffalo, NY - but I offer that simply as a reference point for you yanks.
I am a horse trainer with my own farm. I have given a couple of kids the crash-course (oops - poor choice of words?) on horseback riding to prepare them for TV roles. And they just filmed (August?) some scenes for a Whoopi Goldberg/Danny Glover film at my local feedstore. Too wierd - it was standing in for the rural south.
And Andy C: I have been to Elmira and Elora - gorgeous country up there.
Maybe she was pulling our collective chains, or maybe she was talking about Rick Hautala. Maine's OTHER horror writer.
hehehehehehehe
I am from western PA. Originally from a small town and going to college in a small town.
Shop Smart. Shop S-Mart.
It's not posted because its a small gathering of people who take a special English class devoted to him every year. It's denounced as a rumor because every year more and more people who are not part of the class try to go....it's not open to the public or anything, though that rumor is circulating. It's essentially dinner and some really creepy-ass stuff he shows everyone on the tour, but people will routinely jump out and grab at you and stuff....I've never been myself, but I've had friends that went.
Another Canadian.
Peterborough Ontario.
Extremely small town that consists of mostly old folk and rednecks.
Arlington VA - less than a mile from the Pentagon. Not too many low budget movies filmed around here, although my then girlfriend/now wife once jogged by the Marine Corps Memorial (often wrongly called Iwo Jima Memorial - maybe Andrew will appreciate that I got it right) and saw a film crew filming the sunrise behind the memorial and the DC skyline. They were taking shots of just the memorial, and then asking people to walk in front of it for some of their shots. Given the timing (1995), I think it may have been for an establishing shot used in Independence Day. There have been about a trillion movies filmed here - which is funny to go to the movies and listen to all the locals snicker at the continuity errors. Worst offender ever was the Jackal. I don't know where the climactic scene of that movie set in the DC Metro was filmed, but it was not the DC Metro. I also recall more than a few people in the theater during Planet of the Apes whispering "there's our house!" as Markey Mark swooped in over the Ape version of Washington.
Another favorite of mine is the broad stone staircase behind the Lincoln Memorial that goes down almost to the banks of the Potomac. In all the movies, that's where the heros or villains go to have secret rendevous and discuss illicit and covert topics. Several problems: first, you cannot get there any way other than on foot. The nearest place where the public can park is maybe a half mile away at the closest, parking there is damn near impossible, and you'd have to cross a very busy street with no crosswalk. The only other way is to walk more than a mile. Problem two, a major thoroughfare runs along the top and bottom of the stairs and they're always full of heavy traffic. Bad place to go for those not wanting to be seen. Finally, the noise of the traffic makes whispered conversations extraordinarily difficult to have. But it's scenic... and I guess that's the whole point.
Edmonton, London, England.
And no, I don't have yellow teeth.

Pacifica, CA just outside of San Francisco
You live in NC? Well I'll be damned. I live in Greesnboro not two hours down the road from you!

I am from Atlanta, Ga. I currently live and work in Brcko,Bosnia. I'm not sure if this is something that could only happen in Bosnia, but I'm positive it wouldn't happen in the states. I'm not a particulary big guy, but I shave my head and wear a goatee, so the locals seem to think I'm Stone Cold Steve Austin. I've also have been asked if I am Bruce Willis. I look absolutely nothing like either of these gentleman. Oh well, in highschool they called me Doogie Howser, so I guess it's a step up. Happy Holidays to all.
NYC. I live in Brooklyn, work in midtown Manhattan. Stories?
I once saw Patti Smith and David Peel get into an argument in Washington Square Park (circa 78-79). Once came out of the subway in the Village in the dead of winter and almost walked into Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson looking in the window of Sam Goody's. My wife used to work on the upper West Side, saw many soap stars on the streets; she once walked into (literally) Sean Lennon while she was wearing her John Lennon t-shirt (she was embarrassed).
Some of the scenes in As Good As It Gets were shot about 2 blocks from my house.
Greensboro, North Carolina. It's the gateway to the gateway on the third left, two halls down. Not much goes on around here: not much filming, not many plans for terrorist attacks; just a lot of disappearing woodland area being lost to expanding corporate commercial stores like Kohls, Best Buy and Target. And I remember when Greensboro was pretty.
My story about living in America? Well, there's always the awesome power of being able to create your own business on a whim and not have your government bring a fist of opression down on you. But, me personally, I don't think I have any. Well, maybe going to see Woodstock 94 WAS INCREDIBLE, but that's about it.
-Scottie-
Indiana here. There is not all that much special going on here in Indiana. Sometimes you can see John Mellancamp in stores and restaurants here in the college town I live in. I know, he's such a huge star and all. =0P
Deena
Templeton (read: Backwoods) Massachusetts. The only movie I can think of that was shot in my area is School Ties, which featured a young Brendan Fraser, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. I remember when they shot it, they changed the name of the diner, so now the diner's got two names, depending on which angle you look at it from. Apart from that, the nearest frequently shot location is Concord, MA (about 45 minutes away), where Steve Martin shot a movie or two, and I know there've been others.

Story: The place where I get my glasses made is owned or run by the father of Ellen Muth, the girl who played the younger version of Jennifer Jason Lee's character in Dolores Claiborne. After the movie came out, she was autographing pictures at a video store within walking distance from my house.

Do you often see imaginary people? :)

Nice move! I'd love to have seen her face.

Yes, it's always best to keep your love in your home town. :)
I'm from farm country upstate New York. The only story I can think of is about the time my cousin and I almost got arrested for trying to sled on the Hill Cummorah (a mormon holy site a few towns over). I was only 7 at the time and my cousin is from Brooklyn and didn't know it was a holy site. Imagine my parents suprise when we came home in a police car. And Ash, for your book, I wear boxers and have type O negative blood. I enjoy candle-lit dinners and long walks on the nonexistant beach (unless Lake Ontario counts).
Born in Hemet, California, raised all over (Michigan, New York, North Carolina), but I consider Oregon my home.
I'd love to tell you where I'm from but unfortunately I signed some confidentiality papers or something when I joined the witness protection program
I was born and raised in Delaware. One of these days, when we have the time, I am going to get my picture taken at one of the locations for "Redneck Zombies." It was filmed about 30 minutes from where I grew up.
Me jumping in the air, like I am in some sort of car advertisement, in front of the "insane asylum" should be good.
Northwest Indiana here. Actually about an hour from Chicago. BUT just about 40 minutes from me is where producer John Handcock has his studio. Prancer was filmed here and I believe Piece of Eden had some scenes filmed there too.
He also filmed a horror film here but for the life of me I cannot remember the name. I think it's Suppened Animation but can't remember.
Columbus, Ohio.
Lived here all my life. Traveled , but always liked it here.
Leaves more sitting room for you guys!
I'm from a little known planet in another solar system . . . Actually, I'm from the planet Earth (maybe, you've heard of it.) More specifically, the USA. But, I like to travel. It must because of all those alien bounty hunters after me. Now, if I was twice as rich and retired . . . Enjoy!,
USA
A little town called Franklin in a state known only as Massachusetts.
LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
The very first public library in the United States of America was built and still stands in Franklin.
I'm also from Greensboro, NC. Interesting to know there's another from there. I'm currently in Kentucky working at a documentary film studio. It's funny; people make fun of Kentucky, but I came here to make films rather than go to New York or Hollywood, and since arriving I've been on TV with the Backstreet Boys, had breakfast with Janet Reno, and had Waffle House with Jello Biafra. I tell you, Kentucky is where it's at.
Completely forgot about it! There's at least one movie shot around Lleida, to be exact, it is "Guerreros" (2001). It is a spanish war movie and part of the Pirinees played as Kosobo. Here's the IMDB entry: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0293191
