Title: Again, some silence.
Post by: D on December 24, 2002, 12:48:11 AM
Well, I hate to post this so close to Christmas, but I feel that this is important.
Joe Strummer died today.
I could go on a rant like last time, but I don't think that would solve anything. It's funny, I was never a huge Clash fan when they were together, but I really started to get into their music after they broke up. This might be the point where I leave some kind of witty remark about that, but I just can't think of anything. I could go on a rage againest the commerical plundering of punk (London Calling being a big one) but I doubt it would do any good at this point.
I don't know how any of you guys and gals are going to react to this news, but as for me, I'm just going to put on Sandinista on the cd player and have a silent toast to one hell of a lead singer

I heard this on the radio yesterday and this was certainly upsetting news for me because I am a pretty big clash fan. Sad to see him go so soon. The only downfall about the clash was combat rock to me- never liked it to this day. Its kind of like how the police started all edgy and punkish then moved to sting ballads (eck) Of course with the clash its a different story. Going to go through my clash collection and play a few things myself.

What is it about punk icons that they can't live past fifty? But how sad would a retirement age punk be?

I live in the Balkans, so I just got the news today. I was never a huge Clash fan, I liked some of their tunes, but thought a lot of it was posturing. Still, as one of the other posters said, he was a hell of a fine singer.
