Title: Its time to discuss Darkness Falls
Post by: Evan3 on January 26, 2003, 11:38:25 PM
No.

I haven't seen this.

No.

The Tooth Fairy does not scare me and in no way will she ever scare me.

Yes.

I watch more bad scary movies (Queen of the Damned, Halloween Ressurection) than the rest of America and am happy about it.

So.

Why the hell is Darkness Falls top at the box office. After Kangaroo Jack, I seriously wonder WHAT THE f**k is America looking for. Are the mindless drones coming out???? Am I now in a scary movie of my own??? Will Wes Craven's They be up for an academy award for best script?? Drumline for acting??? Road to Perdition for best movie (oh God I dread this). I think I am going to go watch the Edward Norton film the 25th Hour to make sure good movies still exist.

Has anyone seen Darkness Falls by the way? Does anyone else even carE?

My friends and I went to see it on Saturday night, simply because it looked so bad, and it was SOLD OUT. After briefly contemplating what this says about the American people, we spent our money on a Wesley Willis album, which was probably far more intellectually enriching than Darkness Falls.

The Tooth Fairy..heh. Guess it wouldn't be right unless they tainted every childhood fantasy. Btw, anyone ever the least bit curious why the tooth fairy wanted all those teeth?

It IS kinda creepy

Doubt i'll see the movie

It's weird but it almost seems that no one has seen Darkness Falls and yet it's the no 1 film at the B.O.. I checked a couple of horror forums (including Horrorspeak) and no one has posted their reviews yet. Hmmm...

It's either because they're too embarrassed to say they saw it or liked it, but I find it very weird. Maybe Columbia pictures/Sony is behind this! ;)

I rarely go to the movies (too expensive), but I didn't think it looked that bad.

I just keep thinking of that one Space Ghost episode where Space Ghost runs over the Tooth Fairy and meets Bizarro Santa:

"But why do YOU want to be the tooth fairy, Santa?"
"So that I could have all the teeth! And use them for toys for my own twisted enjoyment!"

I think Hanson was the guest that week, and this was before Adult Swim's disclaimers... I can only imagine how many children were irrevocably warped by that episode.

Darkness Falls was decent....

That is all.

No way am I watching this 75-minute crudchunk. I'm getting really tired of movies in which children (let alone very young children) are butchered or constantly terrorized. It's sick. (And if one can't tell the difference between this thing and "They," for example, and better stuff like "The Sixth Sense" or "The Ring"--well, that's just sad.)

Say, take a peek at the IMDB listing! The script was written by John Fasano, who:
--also wrote: "Universal Soldier: The Return" and "Meddigo: The Omega Code 2;"
--acted in "Zombie Nightmare;" and
--directed "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare."
Warning enough, I'd say.

"Falls" is based on a short, "The Tooth Fairy," from 2001. Anyone ever see it?

I haven't seen the movie...hadn't even heard of it.

I read the plot outline about a killer Tooth Fairy and thought "you've got to be kidding"

I'm not sure when people started taking songs and children's stories and such and turning them into concepts for horror movies, but it's got a bit silly.  It seems like the juxtaposition between childhood innocence and horror can cause a certain amount of creepiness, but I think they are running out of ideas.

What others can we think of:

Nightmare On Elm Street (tune from 'pick up sticks with Freddy inspired  lyrics)
Jeepers Creepers - where'd you got those..oh, nevermind..
Candyman - Don't know *why* the villian has that name, but it's from children's stories.
IT - killer clowns (and yeah you've got Killer Klowns From Outer Space but I don't count it because they don't really try to be serious)
Jack Frost - Frosty the clown gone psycho
I think Santa Clause has been a homicidal maniac a few times around
