Title: Here today, gone tomorrow
Post by: Andrew on February 01, 2003, 12:58:04 AM
I am still in country, though most of my Battalion is mobilized.  Funny thing, it looks like I might stay here in the U.S. (per present info).  Still, I am spending many hours taking care of military duties and, after getting home, working to finish projects around the house.   At 0200 the other night I was putting a layer of Polyurethane on the newly sanded and routed bar (between kitchen and dining room, 1 1/2" oak).  Katie is starting to show our little one, a girl who will be named Jenna, and worried that the father might be away for the first year or so of our child's life.

In other news, and not to cause worry, if something does happen to me the site will remain.  My stated wishes are that a portion of my estate be used to fund the site for at least 10 years of operation (I have sufficient insurance, etc. for this and to take care of my family).   Hopefully Katie or Gary would find someone who loves bad movies just as much to take up the torch.

God keep you, Katie, your daughter and all the men and women of our Armed Forces in the days ahead.  I hope Katie knows that if she ever needs anything I can provide (although I can't imagine what that would be), she needs only ask.

Semper Fi should work both ways, and I hope you know you're in the thoughts and prayers of all of us.  Keep safe.

I really hope that everyone comes to their senses and you don't get sent at all.  But personal opinions aside, if you do go, take care and stay safe.

Pete

(What does Semper Fi mean?)

Motto of the US Marine Corps, Semper Fidelis.  Always faithful. (Uncle was a Marine)

Indeed, I hope there is no need for a bequest, and you can introduce Jenna to bad movies.

And thanks for all you do.

I agree with Pete but if you do have to go take care of yourself.

I would much rather spend some more time doing good things in the world too.  War is not among the good things, more like a necessary evil.   If it is absolutely necessary, then so be it and let us get it done quick so we can return to the important tasks.

Please accept best wishes from Germany, too, for you and your family. I sure do hope that this site will remain in your hands for a very long time to come!

cheers
Markus

I have a deficit of words I can use for this sort of thing that make me seem sincere.

So if you must go, take care of yourself and those around you.  Your presence, among others, would be sorely missed.
