Title: Upcoming Stuff
Post by: Evan3 on February 13, 2003, 02:56:10 PM
So, here is what we have to look forward too that mainstream is giving us this year.

House of 1,000 Corpses. Its finally here. Rob Zombie says that he hopes this to be a "nihilistic and morally corrupt film." But he never even talks about plot.

The Matrix video game. Thats right, this has an hour of extra footage shot only for the game. It is a companion for the next two movies and apparently, if you play the game, you will fill some minor plot holes. This is the next step of videos.

The Hulk. This just keeps getting better. Over half the movie is directed in computer animation. Thats righ, Ang Lee actually directed the video magic people as to what to do, what expressions to make. It should be the next step in special effects (although Sci Fi, will probably stick with CGI).

Sean Connery in a dark super hero film called the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This group has Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as a member!

Exorcist: The Beginning. Does anyone know about this. What the hell is it?

Finally, Wes Craven (yeah he sucks) and Kevin Williamson (Dawson's Creek writer) team up to write Cursed, a tale about a werewolf. It almost certainly will end up here.

So do u all have anything to add to these movies??

Also, check out my three kings post, it discusses Sandler, Clooney, and that guy Colin Farrell, not the movie. I think you all would like it. Sorry about the shameless plug.

EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING takes place when Father Merrin was a young man and performed his first Exorcism. At least, that's what I read about a year ago.

I know that I am the voice of dissent here, but when nobody wants to distribute your movie, that is not  a good sign.  Sure people talk about the gore effects, but for me that is so been there, done that.  Judging by what I have seen, he's simply reshot The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a carnival ride horror movie video.  Yeah, sadisitc, gory torture in like the nihilistic slasher shockers of old.  Will it have teeth?  Will is suck?  Don't know, and, sadly, advance word on this has been so quiet (unlike other buzz building movies like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) that I'm more dreading this than looking forward to it.

"Yeah dude, but the effects are gonna, like, be over the top and rock!"

To paraphrase Carl Kolchak, "Kids, I've seen more gore effects than you have had TV dinners."  There comes a time when you want those gore effects to mean  something other than look, you know, way gross and cool as sh*t.  If I don't care about the character, it's red syrup and latex and no amount of slow motion blood spray and fancy edits will hide that.

I haven't seen the first movie yet, so I will probably wait for the next two to hit video as well.

I took one look at the commercial for this and said COOL.  Looks to be the movie to beat this summer.

Video rental material.

John Frankenheimer was working on it before he died.  I forgot who replaced him.  Not looking forward to it, at all.

Chadzilla:

I agree with much of what you say.

The Connery movie sounds like an episode of the old AVENGERS television series where Steed and Peel were often pitted against some sort of secret organization of strange people.

I will probably see HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES . . . and it will probably suck.

I'm looking forward to HULK, mostly because I grew up on Marvel comics.

Wes Craven is riding almost the same gravy train as Tobe Hooper (although, Craven at least made a few memorable movies, while Hooper made only one).

We could do a whole forum on "the wit and wisdom of Carl Kolchak."

The original MATRIX is fun to watch, but very overblown and overhyped. IT JUST AIN'T A VERY GOOD MOVIE.

I will also see EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING (unless Freddie Prinze Jr. or someone like that is in it). It will probably suck.

I will see WILLARD. I think it will be pretty good. If you can get your hands on the book that it's based on (it's called RATMAN'S NOTEBOOKS), it's a very quick read (you can probably get through it in one sitting), but it is DEFINITELY pulp fiction all the way. Still, a little mindless reading never hurt anyone.

Read it back in 1986 or so.  Good pulp book (I love me some pulp fiction, but good).  I'll see the new version, simply because R. Lee Emery is flat out the most inspired piece of casting for that roll, EVER.

I'm looking forward to everything mention so far...

 House of 1,000 Corpses:

Being following this project for a long time and just want to see what the final project is.

The Matrix video game:

I'm a big Matrix fan and will likly buy the game and go see both sequals.

The Hulk:

I always go to the big summer movies, so this is a must.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen:

Read the graphic novel this is based off of so I will see the movie.

Exorcist: The Beginning:

I'll have to see the trailer before I decide weather or not to see it in the theater.

I don't really care about "Cursed" so I'll just skip it, as for "Willard," yeah, that looks like it's gonna' be good.

Movies I'm looking forward to:

Freddy Vs. Jason:
Yes, it's finally coming in August! I can not wait!

Like Hell: Jeepers Creepers 2:
Can't say I really cared for the frist one but I'll see it just to kept up with the slasher scene.

The Order:
Supernatural thriller coming out this summer, sounds interesting.

TCM remake:
I want to see it just to see how bad they screw it up.

2 Fast 2 Furisous:
Seeing it because it's gonna' be bad!

House Of The Dead:
Love the video game, and like zombie movies, so this is a done deal.

And I think that's all for now.

If this is true (about filling in some plot holes), it will end up p**sing off all the non-game players in the audience. Having a game that adds to a movie is one thing, but the game shouldn't be used to deliver parts of the plot, no matter how minor.

I know I'm going to be p**sed if these movies leave me asking questions and the only way to get the answers is to play the game on one particular brand of game console that I have no intention of buying.

What's next? A movie with no ending and you have to buy the game and create the ending yourself?

hahaha John
No these are minor plot holes.
For example, in the movie, they will have some sort of weapon and to u it will seem like a coincidence that they have this weapon.

Or, there will be a suitcase in a convenient place, and no explanation of why the suitcase got there.

However if you play the game, you will know how they got these things.

I love werewolves, is there any chance that Wes wont screw this up???

The idea of an interactive movie is nothing new, really.  William Castle played the card (literally) in Mr. Sardonicus (sp?) and Debra Hill's production of Clue offered a choice of three different endings.  I am sure that with DVD, gaming, and production technology going the way it is, then we will have an more interactive movie experience to enjoy.

That Sean Connery film EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN sounds good. Sounds like the opposite of MYSTERY MEN. I really likeD MYSTERY MEN.

I've been hoping Rob Zombies film HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES is going to be interesting, but I have my doubts. Maybe the critics just won't put their name and a decent review for a depraved film. Let's hope it is an extraordinary corrupt film. A true classic.

The HULK movie has alot of CGI. I am always distracted by CGI.

In other words, there's going to be lots of people in the audience going "WTF?", "Oh yeah, it just HAPPENED to be right there when they needed it! Gimme a break!", "This sucks, there's no way they could have known that was there!".

This already happens in badly written movies and now they're going to do it on purpose?

When I want interactive, I play a game. When I watch a movie, I want to watch a complete story. I can't be the only one who feels this way, or those choose you own adventure books would have replaced normal novels by now.

Do I have my directors confused, or didn't Hooper make two memorable horror films: Texas Chainsaw and Poltergeist? Not to say the balance of his work wasn't junk . . .

Poltergeist was produced by (and largely influenced by) Spielberg. Hooper just sort of did whatever Spielberg wanted.

Beyond Texas Chainsaw, there isn't a Tobe Hooper movie that is worth a damn.

...I still haven't seen the Matrix.  I just never got around to doing it when it came out.  But I finally rented it via Netflix last week.  I pop the disc in, watch the first 20 minutes or so, and the disc goes haywire.  I sent the disc back for a replacement, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm just destined to never see The Matrix....

I thought LIFEFORCE was a pretty good tobe hooper movie..?

I enjoyed the parts where they had the infected people in the cages and the one runs at the guy on the other side of the cage, but he just slams into the cage and explodes into dust. I rewound that one a few times! :)
