Title: Mexican Horror Films
Post by: Scott on March 02, 2003, 02:18:09 PM
Did a web search on Mexican movies and found a nice sight that give some info on K Gordon Murray. Some great titles here:

THE HORROR FILMS OF K. GORDON MURRAY:

100 Cries Of Terror
The Blood Of Nostradamus
Bloody Sea
The Bloody Vampire
The Brainiac
Bring Me The Vampire
The Curse Of Nostradamus
The Curse Of The Aztec Mummy
The Curse Of The Crying Woman
The Curse Of The Doll People
Doctor Of Doom
Frankenstein, The Vampire, And Company
The Genie Of Darkness
The Invasion Of The Vampires
The Living Coffin
The Living Head
The Man And The Monster
The Monster's Demolisher
Night Of A Thousand Cats
The Phantom In The Red House
The Robot Vs. The Aztec Mummy (the only one that I have seen)
Samson In The Wax Museum
Samson And The Vampire Women
Spiritism
The Swamp Of The Lost Monster
The Vampire
The Vampire's Coffin
The Witch's Mirror
The World Of The Vampires
The Wrestling Women Vs. The Aztec Mummy

Anyone know anything about these films or other Mexican or South American films that are of interest?

"Santa Claus" is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.

I saw The Brainiac on late-night TV many years ago. It's incredible. This guy turns into a monster with a big head and a long tongue. He uses the tongue to suck people's brains out. A true classic.

I've seen some of the Samson/El Santo films including the two you mentioned. Masked wrestler/crimefighter fights supernatural horrors in between wrestling matches while riding in a boss open top sports car. Take that X-FILES!!! They used to turn up on USA a long time ago when they had Commander USA ("Legion of Decency, retired. Heh heh heh.") showing cheesy movies on Saturday afternoons. Ah, my wasted childhood, how I enjoyed it......

I've seen bits of CURSE OF THE CRYING WOMAN, looks worth a whole view.

The films above are mostly from the 60's.

From what I have heard, both Something Weird Video and Image Entertainment have plans to release some of the K. Gordon Murray Mexican imports and his own exploitation films (SHANTY TRAMP annyone?) on DVD this upcoming Summer as Double Feature DVD's.

So, I too am looking forward to these titles.

Burgomaster, don't forget the ornate dish "The Brainiac" keeps unidentified human brains in for light snacking. Complete with that wee spoon. In spite of backdrops so phony Ed Wood wouldn't have used them, the ass-renderingly overlong prologue and the aforementioned silly-looking pulsating monster head, that dish is a moment of pure brilliance--a collision of elegance and refinement versus horrific gore. Fantastic. I love that dish.

A short bit from "Curse of the Crying Woman" played on Sandra Bernhard's "Reel Wild Cinema" years ago. It was pretty funky. But let me tell you, the real gem here is "Doctor Of Doom." Trust me. This is the film that would've pushed Joel or Mike right over the edge.

Chris K. is Korrect.  Here's the list I've seen:

JUNE 24
THE BRAINIAC/WITCH'S MIRROR (DVD): Image
CURSE OF THE DOLL PEOPLE/CURSE OF THE CRYING WOMAN (DVD): Image
DOCTOR OF DOOM/WRESTLING WOMEN VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY (DVD): Image
THE LIVING HEAD/THE LIVING COFFIN (DVD): Image
SAMSON VS. THE VAMPIRE WOMEN/SAMSON IN THE WAX MUSEUM (DVD): Image

AUGUST 12
THE BLOOD OF NOSTRADAMUS/THE GENIE OF DARKNESS (DVD): Image
.BRING ME THE VAMPIRE/THE PHANTOM IN THE RED HOUSE (DVD): Image
THE CURSE OF NOSTRADAMUS/THE MONSTER DEMOLISHER (DVD): Image
THE CURSE OF THE AZTEC MUMMY/ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY (DVD): Image
THE MAN AND THE MONSTER/100 CRIES OF TERROR (DVD): Image

Those are the dubbed K. Gordon Murray versions that played in drive-ins in the '60s, and all comic gold of the highest grade.  Brainiac, by the way, is one of the ten greatest movies ever made.

Even bigger news, perhaps, is a bunch of Santo movies in the original Spanish with English subtitles (ala VCI's excellent Santo vs. the Martian Invasion disc) due out this summer:

I'd like to get my hands on all of them :) I'll never forget the crazed scream of the mad doctor in THE ROBOT vs THE AZTEC MUMMY. I wish I had about $50,000 for the ultimate film collection. Then I'd operate a DVD store with the videos to get back all the cost of the collection.

Oppps re-read my post Scott0. What I meant is open a store and rent the collection till it payed for itself, not to sell bootlegged copies. Get your mind out of the gutter Scott0  :) Will someone get the criminal element off this messageboard.

Would the Image discs be produced by Something Weird? Gad, I hope so... between the obscuro titles and the loads of tangentially-related features, they're quickly becoming my favorite video company (plus, the Monsters Crash the Pajama Party Spook Show Spectacular is the greatest DVD ever. Period.)

Yes, I bought the Monsters Crash the Pajama Party Spook Show Spectacular  DVD for abut $17.00. Its very good and has all kinds of extras. The spook shows and commentary were my favorite. It even has the movie TORMENTED included in the DVD from Something Weird Video.
