Title: Sir Henry at Rawlinson End
Post by: Vermin Boy on June 03, 2001, 12:54:08 PM
Anyone know where I can find this film? It was written by and costarred late Bonzo-Dog Band frontman Vivian Stanshall, and is apparently about a British explorer (Trevor Howard) who needs to exorcize his brother (Stanshall). Anyone know anything about it?

I can point you to the Internet Movie Database entry.

I asked Roger Ebert about it when he was in Boulder & he denied it even existed!  I would love love love to see this movie, owning, as I do, all the output (known) & some boots of the Bonzos.  This is supposedly Howard's last official film.

It used to be out on Tartan Video in the UK, here's a link to a page at Blackstar.co.uk that gives you the details of the now deleted vhs tape

http;//www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000011711

you may have to cut'n'paste it into your address bar.
It's a great film and whoever releases it first onto DVD will be worshipped by me for life. It's not been shown on UK TV for about 15 years, although my mum's still got a vhs taped from the last broadcast. It's an absofreakinlutely mental flick. You will not see wierder.

The first reference to this was on Let's Make Up & Be Friendly (on AM records -- 1972).  Stanshall then did a solo record called Sir Henry at Rawlinson End, followed by Sir Henry at N'didi's Kraal, on Charisma & Demon Verbals respectively.  The first solo albumn has music by Don McLean and Stevie Winwood, in addition to Stanshall & his side people.
I always understood the film to be just a film version of the albumn of the same name, but as there was no exorcism involved on the record, this plot is obviously something else again!!
Someday we will see it, I'm sure . . .

If you're into Stanshall's comedy, try and get a CD by Robert Calvert called "Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters", it deals with the Lockheed scandal of the 60s (West Germany were sold a pig-in-a-poke by the Lockheed corporation - Starfighter jets that had an unfortunate tendency to crash. A lot. ) As well as being a great rock album, it features Calvert and Stanshall in some hilarious sketches in between the songs.
