Title: Horror Rises from the Grave (4 Movie Set)
Post by: Scott on March 09, 2003, 10:18:44 AM
Purchased Horror Rise from the Grave last night. It is a 4 movie set on 2 disc and distributed by Brentwood. Brentwood has dissappointed me in the past, but you can't complain to much because they give you so many films for the usual price of one movie. Here is what is in this set for $9.99 at Suncoast:

HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB -  Horror film from Spain starring Paul Naschy. It also has this classic erie horror music. I use to own this on VHS and really liked it, so I was glad to have it in my small collection again. This one has scenes that were cut from the VHS version that I had, so it even better than before, not to mention the quality of the transfer is a bit better as well.

ZOMBIE FLESH EATER - This is one of the main reasons I bought this DVD set. I thought is was an alternative title of ZOMBIE (a.k.a. Zombie Flesh Eaters) This is the deceptive part on Brentwoods part. Why use the lesser know titles on their cover? Anyway I check through some of the chapters and was pleasantly surprised to find the film to actually be THE BLIND DEAD 3. I haven't seen all of it yet, but the glimpses I have seen are interesting. The ghost ship looks like its a model floating in a cup of water instead of the ocean. Same thing with the women stranded in the ocean. No Waves On the Sea?. The ending is good with the classic looke of blind Templar knights coming out the ocean and onto the beach.

ZOMBIE HELL HOUSE - Brentwood got me again. This is actually HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY which I already own and is only good at the beginning and end.

NIGHT OF THE GHOUL - This film stars Peter Cushing and looks promising, but I didn't see much action or ghouls while taking a quick look at the chapter index.

If you don't already own some of these films then its a good purchase for $9.99.

This is pretty much a good thing for Brentwood, regarding these quality titles, despite the stupid retitlings of the latter three.
BTW: "The Ghoul"(the film's real title)was acccidently mentioned (can't remember who it was)as a  Hammer film, when it's really a Amicus film(whose only gory highlight occurs near the end).
                           Enjoy...

Thanks for the information, Scott.  I am going to put this on my buy list just to get "The Blind Dead 3."  I have been wanting to see that for years.

Yea, I was quite surprised to find BLIND DEAD 3. How you doing Andrew? Haven't connected with you on any post lately.

I am tired, but doing well.  My unit is going, but only about 75% of us.  I am staying behind for now.  Maybe we are the Korea contingency.  Katie is very pregnant and I have been working on the new kitchen cabinets as my Marine Corps duties (and the weather) permit.  Just picked up a dust collection system so I can finally work in the garage at nights, without putting sawdust everywhere.

Here is the mortis and tenon work for the front face on the big cabinet (for all the glasses and dishes).  All of the cabinets are made from solid oak, no plywood or veneer.  No idea why the mortis looks a little uneven.  It is very even and the tenon is filed to make a nice, tight fit.  The mortis was cut with a 1/4" router bit (1/2" deep) and the tenon was also cut on the router table, then the edges rounded.

I often wish my father was still around, just so I could show him some of the work and banter about making things.  Dad taught me carpentry when I was young - I carried it on to learn cabinetry myself.  He really wanted a grandchild to bounce on his knee, so I think that taking Jenna to the Veteran's cemetery will be a trip to make when we can.  It is actually quite serene.  The cemetery is placed amidst acres of cornfields, with grand old oaks here and there.  Hawks often pass overhead.  Dad would approve.

Forgive my wanderings.  Things seem to be on my mind lately.

Hopefully you guys will clean up Iraq, Iran, N. Korea, Saudia Arabia, Syria, and anyone else who wants to harbor terrorist or extort money from the U.S. It's better to stand up to these people at the opportune times than to live under their mercy. To fear what they might do to us is definately NOT the way to go. Hopefully Bush and the Armed Forces can get it done before he leaves office and before those nit wits get back in power. Hopefully the Democrats, the U.N., the Pope, and the other clueless will be shown how ill-relevent they are. Making themselves non-entities in the future. Giving the Repulicans or someone the doorway to truely change the world.

Peace treaties have never worked in the whole history of the world and never will. The only time peace is achieved is when the enemy is totally vanquished and the remaining adapt the ways of the victor. Time to get rid of  wishy-washy people who can't make decisions for the good of the world. Now is the time.

My only concern is that the U.S. (world) lacks a goal to complete what is obviously needed. This is what will defeat us, if anything can.

Dear Andrew --
This is very nice carpentry work.  I have a peachwood canopy bed with the same beveling/connection work.   I'm certain your father would approve.
I did order a shirt from the site recently.  I can't wait to get it!
Many people on this site wished you Godspeed during 9/11.  I suppose we can only do the same now.  Funny occupation for one who provides us with so much distraction here . . .
Anyway, anything else I could say here would be maudlin . . .I used to think that the word was really "Mauldin", and that it referred to the cartoons of Bill Mauldin . . .
Where are we going?  And what happens now?
Thankyou very much for your website and all the pleasure it creates for others in the world.
Respectfully Yours,
Peter F. Johnson

I have to correct myself here, for "The Ghoul" was actually a Tycan production, which was a company runned by Kevin Francis, the son of famed genre filmmaker Freddie Francis, that was a rival to both Hammer and Amicus, but was heavily overlooked by the two better known companies.
And,whether anybody like(or hates)G.W. Bush and his administration,he'll make sure that Iraq(as well as North Korea) will become a charred mess of a nation on the map before he leaves office.
