Title: The Gore Gore Girls
Post by: The Burgomaster on March 11, 2003, 09:24:08 AM
Well, I finally saw it, and I still don't believe it.

I purchased the DVD and watched it over the weekend. This one is over the top, even for a Herschell Gordon Lewis movie.

The main character is an arrogant, effeminate private investigator. He sort of reminded me of David Niven. He and a female reporter hang around in strip clubs (mostly during the day . . . I guess they went for the matinee shows) looking for a killer.

In between the investigation scenes, we get to see various ridiculous murders, including one where the killer beats a woman's ass with a wooden meat tenderizer until it turns into a bloody pulp. Other murders include the usual throat cuttings (which look like they put some red paint on a fake knife) and eyeball gougings.

The guest star is . . . ugh . . . Henny Youngman. On the commentary track, Lewis says that he paid Henny $500 to be in the movie. They shot all his scenes in a strip club on a Sunday afternoon before the club opened.

The acting is terrible, the dialogue is ridiculous, and the murders are gory (but silly).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I love HG Lewis.  It's a great film.  Speaking of over the top, I just saw "Blood Freak" where the guy has a turkeys head and he puts their blood n his beak.  I won't try to explain it.  Sort of "Robot Monster" meets, well, the Gore Gore Girls

Even though he plays a moderate role in a few scenes, Henny Youngman wanted nothing to do with this picture afterwards and it is not listed in some biographies.

What about that title card at the end?  Crazy stuff.  And Blood Freak, well, that's a story for another time.  I think 2000 Maniacs is Gordon's best, myself.  It doesn't quite seem to know when to end, but it's a great idea.

Lester and Brother Ragnarok:

BLOOD FREAK was one of my most recent purchases. All I can say is, "incredible." And what's up with the star of that movie? He seemed to have some sort of strange accent or maybe a speach impediment (and that was BEFORE his head turned into a turkey). Did you guys notice the accent or is it just my imagination?

As for HG Lewis, I have DVDs of THE GORE GORE GIRLS, 2000 MANIACS, BLOOD FEAST, COLOR ME BLOOD RED, GRUESOME TWOSOME, WIZARD OF GORE, and A TASTE OF BLOOD as well as his short feature THE MAGIC LAND OF MOTHER GOOSE (which appears on the WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ DVD from Something Weird Video). I found GRUESOME TWOSOME and A TASTE OF BLOOD to be a bit disappointing because they had less over the top gore than the others.

I love his non gore stuff too.  Especially Just for the hell of it! and Blast -off girls, if only for the Colonel Saunders cameo.

what's up with the Grinter brothers (Blood Freak)?  Is it true that after watching "Bob Grinter: Nudist" you'll die 8 hours later a la "The Ring" ?
