Title: It The Terror From Beyond Space
Post by: Matthew.G.A on June 08, 2001, 06:58:50 PM
This one came out in 1958, and actually it was much like the movie "Alien" in plot! I saw this as a little kid in the early 60s and it scared the heck out of me! For its time it was real intense! Its about a spaceship that lands on Mars to pick up a lone survivor from an earlier expedition! They took this guy into custody because  all the members of the previous expedition were killed and this guy survived! His story was strange creatures killed them! So, when they take off, one of the creatures get on the ship and on the return flight starts killing off the crew!
Now as with most 50s films this one has some cornball stuff! Like nothing stops this thing! I mean they have an arsenal on this spaceship! High power rifles and all! "does wonders for a space ship hull"! Then my favorite is when the monster gets in the air ducts! So our heroes just happen to have a case of "pineapple Fragmentation "Hand Grenades! And they wire about 7 to the vent! Well, it doesn't stop the monster either! "still no damage to the spaceship hull"!
Oh yes, they also happen to have poison gas on board also and it doesn't work either! "and they breathe the same air also"
But back then it was scary! We had an old basement in my home and I wouldn't go down there at night for a long time after that! All that said, It was a cool movie and worth seeing!

The monster is pretty silly looking too, but the atmosphere is exactly what was recreated for "Alien."  Well, except for the attempt to blame our luckless survivor for killing the others.

The DVD is coming out late summer/early fall and I'm looking forward to it.

I only seen the first 10 minutes of the film, but I liked it imediately. The copy that I rented was damaged and had to return it. I will catch it the first chance I get.

By all means do. My copy has Joe Bobb doing the hosts duties...extra points! I say, if a 3.5 inch bazooka can't stop the alien menace, your are screwed! put your head between your legs.....i mean, if they diden't believe Marshall thompsons story about rampageing aliens...what was all the hardwear for!? oh...right...Commies!

With all the shooting and explosions inside that space ship, I wonder If we can build airliners out of the same stuff?
Hey and did you see when the opened the supply cabinet? They had a limited supply of blood plasma but about 20 cartons of cigarettes! If the monster got to those that would have killed him I bet!
But still, Its a cool movie!

I just saw this movie last Night On cable, on a scale from 1 to 10 i would give it an easy 10, I had seen it before when I was about 10 years old, and it was as exiting as it was when i first saw it. But just 2 days ago I was telling my kid's, who are viedo games freaks!! as well as movie buffs, that most of the feature films produced in recent years are just film modifications of great works as far as film's are concern, with new special effects techics
Todays film's are just stories retold with a different perspestive,
From "Independence Day" and "War Of the Worlds"

I have the MGM Midnite Movies double feature versioon of this on DVD.  I believe THE MONSTER THAT CHALLENGED THE WORLD is the other movie on the DVD.  A fine 50s double feature!

Wow, this was a very old thread brought back up.  I actually have the Midnite Movies single DVD version of "It!  The Terror from Beyond Space" and that release has been out for a long time now.  As Burgomaster noted, there is now a double feature DVD release available.

If you take "It!  The Terror from Beyond Space" and "Planet of the Vampires" together, you can see a lot of "Alien" in the two films.

Ah, and who can ignore a ship with accoustice that let you hear a death scream form three decks away?

Despite(?) the total goofiness of a lot of it, I consider this one above average for atomic-age scifi. It's got an interesting plot and is more genuinely entertaining than it probably has any business being.

     Well, I flat-out love this one --
From a very good "Dr. Girl" -- I'm always fascinated by the way women are portrayed in Space Epics from the '50's and '60's -- to a very scary man-in-a-rubber-suit monster, this one has a lot going for it --
And I don't just think it "has a lot of Alien" in it, I think the makers, if still alive, should've sued Alien for a direct uncredited remake!!  There really are too many similarities that a Copyright Infringement suit would've revealed -- not to say that I don't also enjoy "Alien" very much --
This was one of the very first scary movies I watched with my Dad at the ripe old age of 7 -- Broad daylight on Channel 5, but I still had to keep running out of the room.  To this day I can run the scenes in my mind, with the monster chasing them slowwwllyy to the top of the rocket, tearing through each bulkhead door like silver paper -- er, perhaps because the doors WERE made of silver paper --
Yep, just great B-movie fun on all sorts of levels -- See it Now!!
