Okay, anyone who's spent any time on this site knows the postings I'm talking about: "Hey, I just got London After Midnight and the Complete Works of George Romero on a VHS for 45 cents!!"
I have always been so jealous of these postings.
Well, one of the local Wherehouse chain stores went out of business here in Boulder, and I scored 10 DVDs for $10 -- At last!! I scored a huge bad movie bargain!!
The titles:
Scream of The Wolf, Wolf Man (some drive-in '60's version), Moon of The Wolf, Snowbeast, Silent Night/Bloody Night, Don't Look In The Basement (Pure trash!! Saw it for the first time last night. Real '60's zero-budget stuff.), Jack the Ripper (with Josephine Chaplin), Satanic Rites of Dracula (Seen it. Christopher Lee/Hammer. Okay, so not all of these are bad bad . . .), House on Haunted Hill (Yes! The Vincent Price version!! For a lousy buck!!!), and Night of the Living Dead.
Anyone seen any of the first group I mentioned? Any thoughts? I haven't even perused the reviews here to see if our esteemed Andrew or a member has already given their take on these. "Snowbeast" looks very much like it will contain what Ken Begg calls "The stench of Jabootu". Can't wait!

I picked up that same set a while back, but it's so far down in my to-do stack that I haven't even unwrapped the cellophane.
Sounds like you picked up The Vault of Horror DVD Collection that has 10 movies in it. Can't remember how much I payed for it. I think it was $15-$20.
SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA - This is a good Dracula film in my opinion. It's also known as COUNT DRACULA AND HIS VAMPIRE BRIDES (1974). I bought it for $6.99 on DVD last year.
DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT - Bought this one also last year. Real strange cheapo film. The whole movie takes place in this house. You would think that some of the stuff could be heard through the walls, but I guess not. It's a tough one to sit through, but it has some entertainmet value. I'd say check it out. Better than some of the cheap stuff out there these days.
HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL - The original I'm sure. This one is of coarse a goody and easy to fiind cheap.
SILENT NIGHT BLOODY NIGHT - Well, when buying this DVD you might think you have something special, but it isn't. Kinda bored me.
SCREAM OF THE WOLF - Isn't to bad if I remember rightly. I think its that TV movie from the 70's.
SNOWBEAST - Haven't taken the time to look at it yet, but I did see a film called snowbeast in b/w with a yeti/man and some cool looking yeti's in the snow covered mountains. Not sure if this is the one you have though. Bad acting, but great yeti scenes.
The whole George Romero Collection - Wow, .45 cents, good deal. Even for VHS.
I got this set free from the video store I worked at. I've only watched Satanic Rites... so far. I started Wolf Man, but never got far. It looks like a tape of someone's high school play.
I have House on Haunted Hill on another DVD with Last Man On Earth, too.

How is the quality of LAST MAN ON EARTH? I have seen this DVD at various stores, but I was afraid to buy it . . .
Good job on the score, Peter. Although I haven't seen any of the movies that you came across (except for Night of the Living Dead), I know what it feels like to finally find a couple of diamonds in the rough. Keep looking man, you'll find some of the best deals in the most unlikely places.

Silent Night Deadly Night, is a good movie. It has okay acting, and pretty good kills. I watch it every Christmas Eve.
I recently bought a 4DVD pack with some of the flicks you have mentioned.
Silent Night/Bloody Night is pretty decent for a shot on video 70s Christmas killer flick. A lot of plotholes and the transfer could be better, but not bad.
Don't Look In The Basement, watched only about a half hour of it. Stuck in my dvd player.
House On Haunted Hill, frickin amazing! Price is my daddy! WHOO!
Well, Diamond Video is pretty damn cheap and known for releasing s**tty R rated versions of stuff like The Beyond.
Their transfers aren't horrible, however. Last Man... looks pretty good and I can't imagine there's an unrated director's cut floating around anywhere, so go a head on and pick it up. Be warned, however ,that it's one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. Good, but depressing.

There are reviews of both SNOWBEAST and SILENT NIGHT BLOODY NIGHT on my site. Both are definitely worth a buck.
Thanks for all the input -- Here's to cheap cinema!!

PS: Gerry, I just read both of those reviews -- very thorough! Makes me feel even better about the deal -- I usually NEVER find bargains --

Count me in as a fan of Snowbeast. I saw this when I was like 10 and it scared the crap out of me.
The DIAMOND version of LAST MAN ON EARTH is good in my opinion. Worth buying for $6.99 on a double feature with HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL.
Well, I guess I have to check out my copy of SNOW BEAST after reading the post. I didn't like my Vault of Horror purchase that included SNOW BEAST, but for some reason I didn't finish all 10 films in that bunch. And yes WEREWOLF did look like somekind of college play on film.
