DONNIE BRASCO - I suggest that you read the book (a true story). The movie leaves out about the first 100 pages of the book, leaves out many important facts (or invents things that never really happened). The entire ending of the movie is NOT what happened in real life.
I realize that movies are NOT necessarily supposed to be like the books they are based on. But I think that works of non-fiction should be more accurately translated to film than works of fiction. The movie DONNIE BRASCO is, in my estimation, about 15 - 20% based on fact. The rest is drama.
GOODFELLAS (from the book WISEGUY) and CASINO also suffer from this. But I'd say that they are probably 75% based on fact and 25% fictionalized.
