I remember reading at some point that the ending of this movie was changed from the original story. Can anyone tell me what the Harlan Ellison version was?
I know I hated the movie ending.
I seem to recall that both ended with the star returning to the surface and feeding the girl to his dog. I think the movie had more details about the underground society though.
The endings are the same in novella and movie.
I read an interview with L.Q. Jones in Psychotronic where he talked about how much he researched the idea of what might happen with an society of people who lived underground, and how the look of Topeka came about from that.
Thanks for the answers. I guess I mis-remembered or was mis-informed.
A closing gag line was overdubbed on the movie (whether it was Jones's doing or not I'm sketchy about) where the dog makes a comment about the girl "having poor taste". This did not occur in the book and many fans feel it almost single handedly ruins the movie.
And Vic replies; "No, but she sure did taste good"
Thanks Chad, that's probably what I was thinking of . Count me as one of those who didn't like it.
