My goodness!!! I KNOW that David Carradine had to feel a little odd dressed in that skin-tight futuristic leather jumpsuit of his!!! Oh and good ole Sly Stallone didn't let me down with all of his roaring at nothing and incomprehensable dialog- "Wha go schwa schwa do!!!" I believe was one exciting line of his.
The only thing missing was ....... hmmm....a good plot, good acting, more Corvette crash scenes and a shorter runtime.
"Deathrace 2000" is a fun little black comedy. The colorful characters were a riot. Stallone's whole, "Some people may think you're cute, but I know that you are a baked potato." (or something like that) comment to his female companion always makes me laugh.
Don't forget the nurses wheeling old patients out into the street for "Euthanasia Day" either.
"Euthenasia Day at the old folk's home" is one of my favorite lines from any movie
Uggh! I did not like this movie. I couldn't stand to watch Stallone incoherently scream another line after the first half hour. Although I did like the wife getting benefits for her husband being the first person killed in the race! Sloppy storyline, tight leather, and Stallone. Just didn't work for me.
Scotti
It's a hoot that holds up well for me, the kind of vicious black comedy that couldn't get made the same way today (I'm dreading that Tom Cruise remake that gets talked about from time to time). Cheap and over the top, I love it! Besides I love these old Corman produced flicks that have "The Real" Don Steele (playing Junior here) in them, that kind of old-style radio DJ-ing cracks me up.
Although on further reflection, it makes me wonder if this was actually a portrait of America after the Patriot Act II is passed. It was the French!
What a perfect time to make a post for this classic, since David Carradine is on the thesholds of a big screen comeback(as the lead villain)in the upcoming "Kill Bill",which is the Next Big Movie to be discussed all over the web within the next couple of months(now that Rob Zombie's House..." movie is finally out).
Deathrace 3000.....Nah....never happen...well, not happen and be any good...
DEATH RACE 2000 is one of my low-budget favorites. It is also one of the first movies I ever rented on video (way, way back when I had a BETA format VCR). Ahhhhh . . . memories.
