You know, as I was watching some old toons today, I had a thought: A lot of these guys were bastards.
Take a look at Woody Woodpecker and the Walrus. Thw Walrus just tries to go about his business, but Woody just shows up and ruins his bbq, and or blows up his house. I mean, Bugs could be a prick, but that was only after he was attacked first. And Chilly Willy? Doc Freex was right; that little penguin was nuts. I remember where he almost killed a cook because he wanted some pancakes.
Anyone else got some toons tht were a little bit off?
D
Screwy Squirrel tended towards Awesome... er, I mean Maniacal Evil. Jerry Mouse in some of the later "Tom and Jerry" cartoons would sometimes pick on poor ol' Tom for no apparent reason. And the Smurfs...
Don't get me started on the Smurfs.
Now that I think about it, most of the seventies Hanna Barbera cartoons weren't exactly steller. Pixie and Dixie* should have been Dipped, as far as I was concerned, as well as Scrappy Doo. Most of their "Super Heroes", too, though that's probably Personal Prefernce rather than Just Cause.
I can't let this pass without mentioning the Go-Go Gophers. Gah. Irritating.

*Pixie and Dixie, the Jerry Mouse wannabes, might have been a product of the Sixties. I don't have the time right now to check.
> Don't get me started on the Smurfs.
Gah! I forgot about those freaky things. And what that little gray mouse that would pal around with Jerry? And why did his pick on Tom so damn much? And what those Scobby-doo rip-offs, like Schmoo (did Al Cap know about that?) and Goober and the Ghost Chasers?
How about the Brady bunch toon? The parents must have been eaten by thoses pandas, because they were never around. Speaking of the Smurfs, didn't it ever occur to that wizard guy just to step on the damn things?
D
What about the SuperFriends? What the hell was up the the ethnic heroes?
Apache Chief? Could they have made this goofball any more of an insult? He spoke like he was retarded. I'm half surprised he didn't say "Ugh!", because I know I did.
Black Vulcan? Mr. Tuvok, is that you? Let's see, we actually have a superhero that shoots lightning and happens to be black (Black Lightning) and his name doesn't sound stupid with "Black" in front of it. No, instead, let's get a new one that we could name just Vulcan and then slap black in front of it so folks know he's black. Let's face it, Lightning itself sounds stupid and a white guy with lightning powers could dress in a black costume and get away calling himself Black Lightning, he couldn't by calling himself Black Vulcan.
Samurai? WTF??? He turned into tornadoes and invisible and caught himself on fire. Ninja, maybe, but not things I associate with Samurai. Also spoke like a retard.
El Dorado? The lost city of gold? Yeah, that's good. He's hispanic with some vague teleportation/mental powers.
In their quest to become PC, the creators of the Superfriends became insulting.
Add to this, putting totally lame asses like Riddler and Scarecrow in the Legion of Doom made them pretty much laughing stocks.
Grown-ups should check out the "Super Friends" page at Seanbaby.com.
Robin: "Quick, El Dorado! Can you fly?"
El Dorado: "...I have no idea, amigo. ENCHILADA SALSA DANCING!!"
Robin: "Was that a battle cry to activate some kind of trapdoor-closing power?"
El Dorado: "No, panties-amigo. It was Español for 'help.'"
Robin: "No it wasn't."
El Dorado: "No...no, it wasn't. Okay, you caught me. I'm not Mexican. I'm just some guy with a tan."
Robin: "In kitchen gloves."
El Dorado: "Right. In kitchen gloves."
Bugs didn't always have to be provoked. He quite often made Elmer's life a living hell out of nothing more than boredom.
> Bugs didn't always have to be provoked. He quite often made

True, true. In the early stuff, Bugs was almost like Daffy; hyper and somewhat insane. And what about that spoof of Truth or consequences? Daffy's teh host, and he puts Porky through all manners of touture. And about theSuperfriends; what about Wendy and Marvin? I could never understand what those 2 added
"Ok, we have a Amazon, teh world's greatest detective, King of the 7 seas, and a guy who do damn near anything-but what this team really needs is 2 half-assed teens who can't do anything! And one must be wearing a cape" Oh yeah, can't forget the dog man, can't forget him. Why do I have teh feeling that JLA just kept them arpund for eye candy? Maybe Wendy for Wonder Woman and Marvin for Batman maybe? Or am I thinking about this too much agian?

Only grown ups? Damn. That excludes me, I guess.

There is naughty language, rude gestures, the occasional nipple, and banner ads to porn sites. Other than that, though, it's cool. :) But Seanbaby does a kickass job of thrashing the SuperFriends, Nintendo, and Hostess ads.
There's also this strip (http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2002-06-12&res=l) from "Penny Arcade;" a visually clean but conceptually awful deconstruction of the Wonder Twins.
Boy, didn't WE get off-topic? But yeah, Chilly Willy's isn't a good neighbor.
Seanbaby's humor doesn't always sit right with me for some reason. I don't think I'm that much of a prude, but sometimes I wonder.
As for Penny Arcade, that's a damn funny site. When they're on over there, they kill me. Forgot about the Wonder Twins comic; you can't look at those two the same way after that.
And, back on topic, Chip and Dale were devils incarnate. Picking on poor Donald all the time. Didn't that duck have enough problems?

On the Smurfs defense here, I like to say they were the only show that was very, very close to a D&D type game. Even the D&D cartoon wasnt as good as the Smurfs and that is sad.
In keeping with my wife's inflated state until just a few days ago, she got me to thinking about Dig-Dug. This comes up because I remember the Chilly Willy video game.
Anyway, Dig-Dug had issues. He tunneled through the Earth and, upon finding a dangerous creature, he was just as apt to inflate it until it exploded as drop a rock on it! Dude had issues...
hey Andrew, congrats on the baby!
You know, I always thought Dig-Dug was kinda odd. "Oh look, a new species of creature! I know, I'll shove this air hose in it and pop em like a open sore!" A sick little man. And what about Burger time? When your pickles come alive and try to kill you, then it's time to chaneg your diet. What was teh Chilly Willy game like?
D
Dig Dug: Well! Look what happened to poor Dig if he extended the hand of friendship to the dragons and, uh, goggled basketballs? Deader'n hell.
I love Burger Time. It's amazingly innocent for a game in which your buns are ravished by a gang of swollen weiners. (Okay, I apologize.)
The "Chilly Willy" game Andrew refers to might be Pengo. (http://www.arcade-classics.com/pengo.html) (Scroll down for screengrabs.)

My God. I'll never be able to look at Burger Time the same way again. Ruined! Ruined I tell you!
Of course, I haven't thought of the game in well over a decade, so I might be being a bit melodramatic...

The only Chilly Willy game I know of is a Pengo clone for the C64.

That's the one! Funny, I could have sworn it was "Chilly Willy," but that is probably just (what is almost) two decades of time passing and blurring things. Do remember loving that game. The object was to kill all the snow bees. Either squash them with a shoved block of ice or crack open their egg before it hatched. Very weird in retrospect.
Now, I never had a chance to play "The Bishop of Battle," but understand the 13th level was very realistic.
Ready to be a little frightened? Some time ago I remember getting an email from an "inflation fetishist" who wanted more pictures of someone in a b-movie about to pop. It might even have been from "Story of Ricky." There was a whole website full of image captures, scans, and art dedicated to "inflated" people.

True, but I was talking more about cartoons, not comics. And the Joker is a bad guy, so I rather expec that from him.

Dude, you didn't mention all the times he cross-dressed!

I don't watch the show

Now this guy was just plain cool. Canceled because 'the kids just won't get it'

Yeah, but he's nicer than Woody Woodpecker

I'll just have to take your word on that. Don't watch the show

Good choice
