. . . and when you finally did, it was a disappointing piece of crap?

I don't think there's really anything I waited my whole life to see, plus I''m still pretty young, but here's some I really looked forward to seeing:
Blade Runner - Wouldn't call it a piece of crap, but a disappointment it was.
Dogma - Loved Smith's first three films, then he made this. Dull dull unfunny piece of crap.
Jay and Silent Bob - I thought he may redeem himself with this one, but all it did was take purile pee-pee jokes to new levels or inanity.

Destroy All Monsters
Waited fifteen years to see it, was totally let down. Would have been let down if I'd seen it when I was still a little kid.
If you can, watch the director's cut version, which doesn't have that freakin' voice over.
The only movie that I grew up and was somehow barred from seeing (i.e. it never played on local TV and video wasn't around yet, yeah I'm that old) was Island of Terror, but it ain't crap.
There were films I was banned from seeing when I was younger. Some that I can remember were Porky's, Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs, all of which I finally saw when I was about 13/14. But none of them were disappointments , I still really like all three. Maybe if I hadn't been sheilded from weird films I wouldn't like them so much now. There's something to ponder.

One I just remembered was THE VALACHI PAPERS. I remember seeing the newspaper ads and movie posters when I was a kid back in the 1970s. They showed a guy slumped in a barber chair, covered in blood. I thought it would be a great gangster movie.
I finally saw it on HBO or Cinemax in the late 1980s or so. What a piece of crap. Whoever came up with the bright idea of casting Charles Bronson as an Italian hitman should be banned from the film industry forever. What a lousy movie.

Pulp Fiction was a big disappointment for me, I was really looking forward to seeing what inspired Go, and it sucked.
I was also really awaiting Jurassic Park 2, but what can I say, it is heads and tails above number 3.
I remember really really wanting to see The Island of Dr. Moreu with Val Kilmer and SURPRISE, what a piece of crap.
Same with Hannibal.
Reign of Fire was extraordinarily disappointing as was the Time Machine Remake, for while both had good beginnings and good ideas, they swiftly deteriorated from there.
The only movie I have been waiting for my whole 19 years was Spider Man, and thank god it was good.
The Sting.. .A long story that starts with a cheating father, who's date was talking about the characters on the movie to my mom... (Ive havent seen it yet... I guess I dont have the heart to see it.)
Soup Nuts... I would love to see this movie! (I would like to see how much of an ass is Ted H. is to Moe and the boys.)
London After Midnight... I think the story goes that its forever lost in a fire in the 1960's, so I guess I have a very long wait here...
Movies that I have just seen...
Flesh Gorden... wanted to see the movie for such a long time, and I think it was worth the wait... great movie!!!
Just thought of 3 others.
I really was disappointed at Backdraft, I expected so much more and it was more of a dud. Stephen Baldwin is the most wretched actor to ever watch.
Same with
A Beautiful Mind... Why does Hollywood give best picture to a hackneyed overdone, confusing piece of crap.... I suspect it is cuz all Ed Harris movies must get some sort of win, God knows why.
Unusual Suspects.... It was good, but since I hadnt seen it until this year, I feel this "surprise" ending thing was soooo lame.
The 13th Warrior.... You go to hell Banderes, you go to hell and you die there.....
I've seen Unusual Suspects back then and I do agree here... it was very lame!
I think that those that do like A Beautiful Mind has enjoyed the ending on Unusual Suspects. (Mainly those voting for the Oscars)
Starship Troopers. Not that I thought it was pure crap. Actually, I found it entertaining but as an honest adaptation it left a lot to be desired. The change in tone and purpose felt as ill-advised as the unrequested camp in Batman & Robin.
NIghtfall (1988). What a waste.
Most movies that cite H. P. Lovecraft in the credits.
I've been very disappointed by many movies with strong praise, but most don't qualify as "waited all life."

flatliners...
Are you talking about the fantastic Brian Singer crime thriller, Usual Suspects or another film? If it is Usual Suspects, then what didn't you like about it. It is tense, smart, and very far from boring.
Usual Suspects is a good movie, but I think they (movie media) over hype the ending.
When I was twelve I heard about this movie called "Creepazoid" I heard it had killer rats and a monster stalking these soliders in a base during the a nuclear explosion or something. The giant killer rats sounded cool and for a while I forgot about it. But two years later I found it at my movie store and rented it. It was dull and bad but I was not disapointed because I saw "Rat Night of Terror" and discovered that giant rats are not always cool so I was expecting the worst movie ever and that sort of buffered the hit of disapointment.
-"The first rule of the fat club"-
STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE - what a disappointment.
STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE... I agree here too... If it wasnt for Jar Jar (the Alien Rapper/gangster character) that movie would of really blow chunks.
I can't think of any movies that I really waited all that long to see, at least not ones I really wanted to see. I do recall reading about the original 13 Ghosts a long time ago and then finally seeing it on one of the cable channels a few years. It looked like the Patty Duke show with shadow-puppet ghosts.
Starship troopers....... According to my girlfriend I am not allowed to pick out movies anymore. I declared it the "Movie Event of the Summer." It ended up licking ass. I have never been so embarrassed over a movie pick.
X-Men. For years and years me and all my friends dreamed of how great this movie would be, until it came out and everything was shattered
2001:A Space Odyssey.Everything beyond HAL´s parts were just ununderstandable.
Also Leprechaun.
AMEN SAM, what a disappointment, the rest of the hero flix are good though
Aye, big letdown there. I figured out the ending almost as soon as the movie started.
DEAD ALIVE. I didn't wait "all my life" to see it, but I did wait a while before I was able to rent it, and was very disappointed. I was expecting more of a straight horror film. I wouldn't call it a piece of crap, but I was very let down by it. It was no more of a horror film than Monty Python would be.
For me, it would have to be Yentl. As long as I remember, I grew up listening to Babs and then finally I got to see her wondrous voice in Yentl....and I was extremely disapointed....she can't act to save her life if it depended on it....after that, I decided to stop dressing up like her for school. My mom was glad because she said it would save me years of thereapy and medication. Still to this day when I see her, I shudder thinking "that could have been me"
I haven't seen it, but apparantly its the Citizen Kane of Kung Fu movies, and perhaps Chan's best...
would actually have to be "legendary weapons of China". It was like the first "modern" kung fu movie, plus it had virtually every future (hong kong) star in it. The type of movie where the historical significance does actually add to the experience somewhat.
In terms of the build up and let down thing. I have alt of the shaw brothers (kung fu) stuff. Sme of the non kung fu stuff is great ( Twinle twinkle little star and buddha's palm need to be n this site) but some of the romantic comedies are really bad, as thse things tend to be.
"The Haunted Mansion", based on the Disney World ride. Actually, it's coming out in November, so I don't know yet if it's disappointing, but my hopes are high on that end: it stars Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Tilly.
What's next, "It's A Small World", starring Reese Witherspoon, Meg Ryan, and Julia Roberts?
