Title: Recent crop circle movie...
Post by: JohnL on May 01, 2003, 10:57:48 PM
Saturday at 9pm, SciFi is showing a recent movie about crop circles signalling a possible alien invasion. No, it's not Signs, it's Silent Warnings, which looks like a low-rent version of Signs. Another of their 'original' movies...

I saw something on Sci-Fi a few nights back about crop circles, mostly what struck me was the insistance by 'the believers' that it couldn't have been done by hoaxters.  Mostly of a style of "I can't see how they could've faked *this*, so it much be real!"

From what I understand, SILENT WARNINGS was made by Nu Image, the same people responsible for the OCTOPUS and CROCODILE movies. That should tell you everything you need to know right there.

Wouldn't it be funny if the first weapons Earthlings use against the invaders were a garden hose and squirt guns?

I honestly don't think anyone at Nu Image would be that clever. I mean, have you seen OCTOPUS 2? EEK!

"NuImage" has become something I look for on the box when looking over rentals.  Well, not something I actively go searching for, but something I understand the meaning of when I see it

I giggle everytime I see that supid commercial for it, especially when Stephen Baldwin whispers "They're planning some kind of invasionnnnnnnn."

Being a schlock addict, I cannot wait to see it.

Well, it can't possibly be worse than that THRESHOLD movie they ran recently.

Be that as it may, it seems impossible for me to detest a movie with Stephen J. Cannell[/i][/u] in it.  I mean it's the guy who created The A-Team and, I believe, The Rockford Files!

I pity the fool who don't like him!

The movie got a 8.9 grade (as of now) at imdb.com, and I watch "nearly" all of the films featured Saturday nights on Sci-fi. Most if not nearly all are so-called "originals" like Threshold and Dragon Fighter.

Silent Warnings will probably suck, even though it got such a high grade (possibly the film makers logged on and voted for the film?) or maybe it won't. Just don't get high hopes and enjoy it as a good movie or a b flick.

"They're planning some kind of invasssiiiannnn.."

HE SOUNDS SO GAY!

This movie is made by UFO FILMS, not Nu Image. So its from the people who made DRAGON FIGHTER, ANTIBODY, and the INTERCEPTOR FORCE movies. Now that I think about it, that means it will probably be ever worse than I thought. Just the fact that the opening shot dared to mimic the score from SIGNS is a sure-fire sign of how unoriginal this is going to be.

This movie is made by UFO FILMS,

Not usually a good way to start evaluating a movie....

I should have known getting such acting luminaries as Stephen Baldwin and Billy Zane to appear in their movie is a task Nu Image could achieve. Just what the hell has happened to Billy Zane? He's like the movie star version of Samson. He lost his hair and he lost his star power with it.

I would like to apologize for my harsh comments regarding DRAGON FIGHTER earlier this year because this was a billion times worse. Just an atrocious, not to mention absolutely boring movie. Did they ever really attempt to explain anything whatsoever? God, this was one of the worst movies I've sat through in a long, long time. I want those two hours of my life back!

As if on cue, I picked up Python for viewing this week.  When lo and behold I look more closely at the box...it's a UFO production! with Casper Van Diem!! (of "Modern Vampires" which I've mentioned here recently)

Looking at his entry in IMDB, by the way, it seems as though "Starship Troopers" was the peak of his career, poor guy

Did anyone notice that when the alien crashed through the window, it was obviously a stuntman wearing dark clothes? In fact when I saw the guy come through the window, the first thing that came to mind was that it was the black guy, and that the aliens threw him through the window. How hard coule it have been to find a grey jumpsuit with a hood?

And what's up with the CGI trucks? First the one coming out of the corn field and then (I'm pretty sure), the one on the road at the end. Is it suddenly considered too much work and/or too expensive to film an actual truck/SUV?

At least it had three attractive actresses, two of whom looked like they might have actually gone topless in the uncut version.

It was SIGNS with the mentality of a slasher only the slasher doesn't do anything until the last half hour of the movie. I wrote a short review for IMDB which should probably get posted later this week. I wasn't planning to but when I looked it up there were no user comments but there were 7 votes scoring it 8.9 which is an absolute joke.

I'll subject this to my eyes at some point.  It has that rotten cheese odor that just attracts me so.
