Has anyone noticed that the SARS photos in the newspapers (people walking around wearing surgical masks) looks frighteningly similar to many scenes in Soylent Green?
I like Jay Leno's opinion that it sounds like a pirate's disease...
Instead of AARRR!
It's SAAARRRS!!
The disease is not a laughing matter but I thought that was funny.
I just love the fact that the Hong Kong tourism board recently launched a new ad campaigne with the slogan "Hong Kong will take your breath away!" Apparently the copy editor was at lunch when this was approved.

I liked Leno's joke about having bought a surgical mask to protect himself from SARS, but now he doesn't know whether it's safe to wear since it was made in China. :)
Reminds me more of Codename Trixie (AKA The Crazies).....

And speaking of The Crazies, my DVD just arrived yesterday!
I envy you Burgomaster!
Actually I find the whole business looks and sounds unpleasantly similar to a BBC tv series from the 70's called "Survivors". In the first episode you see society gradually collapsing under the impact of a flu-like disease from Asia with no known cure. Uncannily reminiscent of today's news ...
I got my copy of The Crazies, too. Very enjoyable, especially the commentary track. Romero was musing how nobody in town got mad except for the end scene because it had a . . . naked black man in a field. It's very tastefully shot and you don't really see anything, but it's just funny looking back in 1970's retrospect.
Will this disease wipe out the numerous population of Asia?
So far there have been 500 confirmed deaths worldwide (from what I've heard on the news). The latest estimate is that SARS would kill about 15% of those who catch it (most likely the old, the young, the already ill). Nope, this isn't the killer disease. But hey, when you've got three 24 hour news channels to fill up, plus the web, the only thing to do is turn a moderate health concern into the next bubonic plague.
Sorta like the whole OJ trial thing.
BTW, I have a hard time watching movies with OJ in them, like Naked Gun. My brain keeps screaming "murderer".
