Two days ago I picked up some cinematic turds at a local store that had a sale. I got five b-movies for a very cheap buck. One of them was a flick called "The Phantom of the mall" from 1989, directed by Richard Friedman. The swedish vesion of the cover informed me that it starred "Derek Rydall from Death Wish IV". Wow, promising indeed. Besides a big shot of Derek with some rather unconvincing makeup, it features a picture of Morgan Fairchild, who was obviously hired to give some kind of class to this teenage movie mess, and another one of a severed head.
The movie, as you may have guessed, is a Phantom of the Opera rip-off that... surprise!... takes place in a mall (with a entrance marked "mall entrance"). The phantom is a teenage guy who takes revenge on the ones who burned down his girlfriends house and almost killed. One year later he is living under the mall that the bad guys built over the ashes. Well, you can figure out the rest on your own...
Also stars Pauly Shore as "the funny guy" with the awful 80's hair cut . Morgan Fair Child is the mayor of the town.
This classic also has some awful 80's rock, but you have to wait for the end titles to roll to hear the wonderful "Is there a pahntom in the mall" performed by The Vandals. Some great lyrics there: "Is there a phantom in the mall/or just some retard in a hockey mask?". After watching this I wish they had put a hockey mask over Derek Rydalls face. Tthe question in lyrics would thus have become rather pointless.

Oh, I also picked up "Fear: Resurrection" (very unconvincing wooden doll, random violence against a tombstone with a stick followed by unexplained bleeding from said stone), The Prophecies (with the worst appearance ever of the blessed virgin in a horror movie) and a very dull but sometimes laughable flick about a jealous AI called "Homewrecker".
Has anyone lese here seen any of the movies above?
I saw Fear:the resurrection, horrible movie. I've seen worse but, this one still rates pretty high on the scale of suckiness. Shame, I thought that the first one was okay
Sounds like a horror version of"Mallrats".
Snoochie bootchies!
I've seen "Homewrecker". A family has a fully computerized home and the AI falls in love with the husband and then tries to kill off the wife. Not too bad.
