I watched this film a few nights ago with my wife, and my God was it horrible! Quite possibly the most unispired crap I have seen in months!
I had read some really terrible reviews for the film when it was originally released at the theater. I told myself that if I ever saw it, it would have to be on video. Well, my wife has been on a horror trend since seeing the remake of The Ring. So, we watched this film and I never had high hopes for it. One small glimmer of hope came during the opening credits when I saw that the creature effects were done by none other than Stan Winston! I thought, wow if Stan Winston did the effects for the Toothfairy, then this film will kick all manners of ass.
I was sooo wrong.
I feel amazingly sorry for Mr. Winston. How does his little resume look now?
Stan Winston
Previous Films:
Pumpkinhead
Levithian
The Thing
Darkness Falls
How Stan ever decided to do the effects for this film, I'll never know. Please no matter what you do, don't see this movie. It's uninspired, far from being scary, and quite boring.....
And will someone explain to me how the hell you set a ghost on fire!?!?!?
sorry, nothing to do with 'darkness falls' (which i understand is crap), but this is the clinically slept-on psuedo-teen-slasher 'cherry falls' which in my mind is really excellent. if 'darkness falls' hasn't totally taken the wind out of your wife's horror sails, check this recent movie out. it's a slightly twisted take on the tired teen genre, but it's really well done and due to bad us distribution (it's not even available on dvd anymore), it's more or less unknown.
Illcos,
I've had Cherry Falls on DVD now for about a year (double dvd with Terror Tract). Quite a good movie as you said. Would have been much much much better had it not been cut so heavily by the MPAA.
By the way, Jay Mohr kicks ass.
I haven't seen Darkness Falls yet, but what I heard was that the filmmakers had the Toothfairy re-designed not far into shooting and that the origina version was better. I believe the Movie Maniacs figures (open mouth/closed mouth) were based on the original designs.
I'm mostly amused about a minor sub-genre in horror movies of taking a childhood phrase or character and turning it horribly twisted into a horror concept.
The Candyman
Jeepers Creepers
Darkness Falls
Tommyknockers?
IT
Nightmare On Elm Street (the redone lyrics to the kid's song)
Does ANYONE know if this movie is gonna be released in South America?
I haven't seen the movie, but I think I've read stories about how exasperated and disappointed the director was about the final product. I guess the guy had something completely new and different in mind, but was forced by the suits to throw away his ideas and adapt to what they wanted. Big surprise there. I feel sorry for the director, because he had his ideas and dreams thrown out the window, and it ultimately hurt the film. So the network execs could be blamed for this one.

Hurt the film? Crap, it DESTROYED the film. Uninspired is barely scratching the surface. Figures it was a corporate snow job that screwed everything up.
Say, I got me an idea. There's plenty of us b-movie types around, right? Well, why don't we all join forces and STORM HOLLYWOOD! I think we got 'em in numbers. If the entire community was rallied by the vets of this here mighty message board, we could take the place by force and use all our newly conquered empire to make the movies we ACTUALLY WANT TO SEE! What say ye?
Brother R
Brother R, you are right on.
Lets storm Hollywood!
Let there be films with latex monsters again!!!!
Probably not....
>Well, why don't we all join forces and STORM HOLLYWOOD!
Can we take down the MPAA in the process?
Oh, naturally. But we take no prisoners there. They don't even get slave labor. Summary executions all around.
