Futurama was already dead.

And Firefly? That seemed like a promising series. Why don´t they can Buffy The Vampire Slayer instead?

I myself could never get into Futurama.

I don't think I've even seen an entire single episode.

I won't miss it.

Ummm...the series finale of Buffy airs this week. You're just a tad out of the loop there, aren't ya? :)

Im with you Ash, Futurama is boring, maybe they can find a good toon (like say the critic) to plug into Futurama's slot. Anyways, Cartoon Network seems happy with Futurama, so dont count it out.

Firefly never really held my attention anyways, give me Oliver Beene any day though.

Futurama was canned a while ago. Now it's on Cartoon Network, just before Family Guy.

FUTURAMA was always a little too "post-modern" for my taste.  I only caught a couple of episodes, but the humor seemed to usually depend on the viewer's knowledge of various pop culture references, and not on the stories and characters [unlike THE SIMPSONS, for instance.]   I didn't even know it was still on.

Fur me,the characters spent too many time naked for my taste.

Except for Leela,unfortunately.

Oh,and Zap Bradigan is the biggest jerk of the galaxy,How that idiot became a military officer is beyond me.

I can see networks cancelling a show that didn't get ratings, what I can't see is them puting on shows with an on-going mystery, like John Doe, and then ending the season in a cliffhanger. I'd like to see a law passed that makes it illegal to end a season in a cliffhanger unless the network plans to make another season, OR they film and air (or release on video) a series finale that ties up the loose ends.

I liked the show. Nothing I made of point of catching every week, but I enjoyed it when I did. If Fox would have moved it to a better time slot that wasn't being bumped for long football games almost the entire season, it would probably have done well. If I recall right, I believe I even read an article that the Futurama people begged Fox to move them (before cancellation was even an issue). Then again, I'm into post modern/pop reference stuff. Heck, that's why I like this site.

I got the jokes on FUTURAMA, but the characters were too one-note for my tastes. I didn't watch all that often and I still felt like I knew what the characters were going to say before they said it and where the plots were going.

JOHN DOE I watched a few times when it started, made next to no impression on me.

FIREFLY I was lukewarm on when it started, but it grew on me. I liked the characters, even though I thought some of the attempts at "Wild West in Outer Space" ideas were ham-handed. I just wish Fox had tried it out in other timeslots, ran the episodes in sequence, and actually promoted the show more to let people know it was on, since they treated it like an unwanted ugly stepchild.
Title: Fox Has A Habit....
Post by: Mr_Vindictive on May 19, 2003, 08:06:42 AM
Fox really does have a habit of cancelling the good shows, don't they?  Although I never made a point to watch Futurama, my wife loved it!  I thought it was decently funny, not as good as The Simpsons or the best cartoon to ever be shown, Family Guy.

Why is it that Fox cancels the good shows?  What we get left with is reality TV crap like Mr. Personality or American Idol.  When will this stop!?***  There used to be a time when I would actually make it a point to sit down certain nights and watch certain shows.  Now I catch Bernie Mac occasionally, and The King Of Queens rarely.

Although I never really watched more than a few episdoes of John Doe, it seemed quite promising.  The exact type of thing that needs to be on TV.  A breakthrough show that could have changed TV...ok, maybe I'm overreacting.  Atleast they kept 24 on.

Did someone say that Family Guy comes on Cartoon Network!?!?  What time!!!?

***-I unfortunatly fall prey to the damned reality TV shows, well Fox's at least.  I watched all of Joe Millionare, as well as Married By America......I feel so dirty.

Unfortunately, this piece of crap takes up the 11-11 30 time slot Mon.-Thurs.

(if it isnt then, then it comes on at 11 30 to 12)

"The Family Guy" gives me a chance to work on my "Quake 2" skills between "Futurama" and "Trigun"

Heh.  I couldn't stand Family Guy either, to each his own.  I did like Futurama, it was amusing, though not on the level of Pop-Icon The Simpsons (but what is?)

Never watched any "reality" show.  If I wanted reality, I'd have my own life.   Oh wait, I do.

It does seem like Fox wanted to kill Futurama.  How many times were there back to back repeats of a show-- even after the football season-- like Bernie Mac, Family Guy, or anything else, while there were fresh Futuramas sitting in the can?  That was always frustrating.

I love the cliffhanger that Duckman ended on.  Thats the way to end a series.

Here's a quote about it by writer Michael Markowitz:

"We never formally planned Part II... and I'll never tell what I personally had in mind. I'm hoping to leave it to my heirs, for the inevitable day when Duckman is revived by future generations. Ah, the Spandex suits they'll wear, the hovercrafts they'll fly!"

Duckman sucks MORE than Family Guy.

Stupid,rude,sex-obessed duck.A f**king pig was thinner, cleaner and nicer than him.

Now I know Firefly has been dead for a while, but I still have to say this to Fox:

"You MANIACS!  You blew it up!"-Planet of the Apes

"You soooooooooooo stupid!  Stupid!"-UHF

-urp- sorry, but I was rather fond of that show.

-----ooo-'U'-ooo------Kilroy was here.

As the others have said, to each their own.  Family Guy makes me laugh maybe due to its sheer stupidity.  Still, more than Futurama ever managed to do for me.   The pop culture references work on the Simpsons because they add to a show that is enjoyable on its own.  On Futurama, it seemed to be a case of the in-jokes being an attempt to distract from a show that wasn't very amusing.  Oh well--hopefully fans of both shows will be able to watch them on Cartoon Network for quite a while.

At least not in my country.

FAMILY GUY got on my nerves. The father was attempt to create a character dumber than Homer Simpson without really making the character likable. The mother and daughter I could only tell apart because of the the hat on the girl's head. The son's voice was so painful to listen to that I got headaches from listening to him and thought I could feel a seizure coming on. The dog was occasionally amusing if only because of his alluding to his "checkered" past, was more funnier than hearing him tossing insults at the dumbass father yet again. Stewie would have made a better SNL sketch (or series of sketches to be run into the ground knowing that show).

FAMILY GUY is still airing on Cartoon Network in the USA just before the anime block on Adult Swim. Mon-Thur. Also airs Sunday at the same time, 10:30PM-11:00PM Central (my time) or 11:30PM-12:00AM Eastern time.
