The film I'm referring to is about a small alien creature/s that terrorizes the workers on an oil rig.
The workers unwittingly release it/them while drilling.
It's a small thing...red or rust colored and only a couple of feet in length with a round head full of sharp teeth. It was slug-like in appeareance as it tended to slither along on it's belly.
If I remember correctly they killed it with fire.
I think it was a made for TV movie.
The title was something like "The Enemy Within" or "The Beast Within" or "The Enemy Among Us"......for the life of me I can't remember the title.
I've been to IMDB but came up short.
I believe the film was made in the mid to late 80's.
Anyone know??

Sounds like you are describing THE INTRUDER WITHIN.
I agree. It sounds like THE INTRUDER WITHIN.
Oil rig workers uncover spore lifeforms, one of which hatches and infects crew member after crew member, evolving as it goes. Chad (hey, that's MY name) Everett was the lead. The final stage was a guy in a suit, given birth by the female oil rig worker. A 1979 or 1980 telemovie capitalizing on Alien.
Thanks guys!
It was indeed The Intruder Within.
I did a bit of reading on it and discovered that the creature was designed by none other than H.R. Giger of Alien fame!
Cool!
I forgot that the little creature grew into a full fledged human sized monster.
Go here to see a pic of it:
