Title: Casting ideas for Fantastic 4 (2004)
Post by: Ash on June 15, 2003, 08:23:41 PM
If you go to the IMDB.com you'll notice a message board for this upcoming film about possible casting ideas.

They mention Mel Gibson as Reed Richards. (Mr. Fantastic)
I think that's perfect!  He'd be great in that role.

Paul Walker (Fast & Furious and sequel) would also be great as Johnny Storm (Human Torch).

They recommended Charlize Theron as The Invisible Woman but I don't think she's a good pick for that one.

It's no suprise that it was unanimous that The Thing would be CGI.

What actors do you think would be great in each role?

* Reed Richards - If they had made this movie about 10 or 15 years ago, I would have said Harrison Ford. People will hate me for this, but I think George Clooney would be a decent choice now.

* Susan Storm - Again, about 10 years ago, I would have said Linda Hamilton. Now, I'm not really sure . . .

* Johnny Storm - About 20- 25 years ago, I would have said Mark Hamill. Now, I'm thinking about someone like Edward Furlong.

* Ben Grimm - This is a tough one. I'm not sure I can answer it. But a CGI "Thing" with the voice of Vin Diesel might work.

I had heard George Clooney was casted in the role of Reed but I do agree with Mel Gibson in the role. George had his shot and blew it with Batman.

Clooney would be my 2nd pick after Mel Gibson as Reed Richards.

I still can't think of any good picks for Sue Richards.

How about Cameron Diaz for Sue Storm?

And I hate to admit this ('cause I can't stand the guy) but Vin Diesel is a great pick for Ben Grimm.

Funny, I immediately thought of Diesel as well. He'd be a decent pre-Thing Ben, and his voice would be perfect for a CGI Thing. Wary as I am of CGI, I agree that it would be the only way to put the Thing onto the big screen without him looking completely ridiculous.

I'm sure I'd like Mel as Reed Richards, but somehow, he just doesn't seem like the best choice for the part. You need somebody who is not just believable as a hero, but also as a great scientist and engineer. Mel looks the part (just needs a touch of white at the temples), and he's good at playing the noble, courageous and wise leader, but I just don't see him as a scientist.

Problem is, I can't think of another actor who fits that combination, at least not a current one.

Ahhh, but the real question is who should be Dr. Doom???

I say the Russian from Boa would be my choice.

Ah, if only Ian McKlellan (sp?) were younger....

How about Kevin Spacey as THE MOLE MAN?

I'm still pulling for John C. Reilly for Ben Grimm.  Please, someone make it happen.

Mr. Fantastic is kind of tricky casting, as Clooney looks the part, but I don't know if he'd do another superhero movie after the Batman wreck.  I don't blame him for that batman movie, though, I blame the director.  I'm not sure,

Human Torch could be an unknown.  Paul Walker could be okay for it, but I think he's a little old.  Maybe Seann William Scott, since he seems so intent on getting into action movies nowadays.

Sue...not sure either.  I don't really have anything against Ms. Theron, but she doesn't really jump out at me as a great choice.  I heard rumors about Renee Zellweger doing it cuz she just worked with director Peyton Reed on "Down with Love".

Why, oh why, would they attempt it again?

Because it can't POSSIBLY be worse than that cinematic bowel movement that was the original FANTASTIC FOUR movie.
