Title: Anyone know what movies these are?
Post by: Rob Phillips on June 23, 2003, 04:34:51 PM
I remember two movies from when I was a kid, but I have no idea what they where.

One was about a girl who was homely and rejected by a bunch of guys and eventually humiliated in what I seem to remember as a operating theater. She is in an accident and after plastic surgery seduces the lot of them and eventually kills them. Yeah, I know, that sounds like half the horror movies from the 60’s.

There was another movie that what I remember of it was a man running down the halls (of a university) as the building’s computers turned off the lights in the corridor. I seem to remember that the computer was taking over people and making them its slaves (through surgery?). I don’t remember much from this bit only that this movie and the old Outer Limits episode “Demon with the Glass Hand” used to give me nightmares for years. I love the Outer Limits episode now, I’d like to test drive my other childhood fear.

Thoughts?

The movie I saw with that plot starred Ed Asner as the cop tracking the killer and Stockard Channing was the former wallflower turned serial killing uber-cutie.  Funny 70s era black comedy with a cute and memorable ending.  Well I remember the ending, so I guess that makes it....oh, forget it.  She was kinda Phibish is her technique.  The 70s was definitely the era for inventive slaughter!

I'm guessing the second movie is Future World...  Part 2 to West World... :D

Or maybe Colossus: The Forbin Project?

Nope, saw that one . . . but neither Colossus or Future World two are it.

I remember being scared (I was 7-9 or there abouts) by the computer turning off the lights in the corrador, and people who had been taken over havin a semi connical head wrap on, something like a surgeons cap perhaps.

Any more suggestions?

Sounds like a Twlight Zone story...

There are not that many Computer taking over the world stories and making slaves out of humans...

"Demon Seed" with Julie Christie was about a computer developing an evil personality and holding a woman captive.  It has been a long time since I saw it, but that's a thought.
Title: 2: Paper or plastic?

When I read the "running down the hall" scene, I thought this might be a made for TV movie Paper Man (1971).  But I'm not so sure; the rest of the movie as I recall it doesn't match this.  Besides, in this movie it was a young woman running down the hall trying in vain to outrun the darkness.

Apostic

PS - loved Girl Most Likely To.  Kinda had a Count of Monte Cristo thing going for it.

The second one rings a bell ....I think there was a scene in "The Power" (1968) with the extinguishing lights 'chasing' someone down an institutional hallway.  It was well done - tense-making!
