Title: Horror Express
Post by: Chopper on June 27, 2003, 11:53:04 AM
I've heard a lot about this old horror film with Peter Cushing. what's everyone's opinion of it? i've been thinking about buying it at our lovely Base Exchange (it's only 6$), maybe i should get off my cheap ass and just buy it. they also have Phantasm on DVD for only 10$.

I have it on DVD. If you like Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee movies, then you will probably like it. Otherwise, you probably won't like it.

It all takes place aboard a train. There's a monster that looks into peoples eyes and drains their brains or something (I can't remember exactly, it has been about 3 years since I watched this movie). Telly Savalas is in it. It is not extremely scary or gory, but it is worth watching. I would recommend that you buy it for $6.00. I think I paid about $10 for the DVD.

hmmm, i haven't seen a ton of Cushing films, but what i've seen i thought was ok. maybe i'll just stick with Phantasm. Shock Waves with Cushing was an alright film, very boring, but cool atmosphere to it.

This is one of the best "Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee" movie...

Also, its has a oddness in it... that not too many movies have or even play well... this movie is a cult classic just because of its oddness... (I dont want to really give away the story... )

I have a copy of SHOCK WAVES too. In my opinion, HORROR EXPRESS is better. In fact, you made me want to watch it again. Maybe this weekend . . .

The Burgomaster... what do you think of the "inside jokes" ?

When I watch this movie it looks like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are having fun... even Telly Savalas small part, he seems to be having fun while making the movie...

I would love to see the out takes of this movie...

I've always liked this one.  It's one of the rare times Lee is the hero of the piece, rather than the villian.  The end comes out of left field and the science is silly, but everything else is pretty good.

>It is not extremely scary

Maybe not now, but when I was younger, this movie scared the crap out of me. I was watching it in a room alone and I made it to the part when the guy looks into the crate and sees the red eyes. I turned it off. I did eventually watch the whole thing and that part still creeps me out.

(IMHO) Anytime you get a movie, where you get to see Cushing and Lee interact, then you got a movie worth getting. Or, put it this way, since it is the cheaper of the two, buy it, and save yourself $4.00. Enjoy!

I'm not sure. I haven't seen this movie in several years, so I don't remember the inside jokes. I will keep an eye (or ear) out for them the next time I watch this!

This a fun favorite of mine, not really scary by today's standards, but still a good "spooky movie". The kind of stuff I miss seeing turn up on late night TV now.

Besides it's fun to see Lee and Cushing together outside of their usual Hammer work.

I really didnt care for this one, was interesting until the ape thing 'killed' people (yeah was boring just killing them by looking them in the eyes)

but it had its moments.

I found this film to be a treat.  It makes good use of the "locked room" theme.  And with the Monster switching bodys you are not sure of who is who.  It makes good usage of light and shadow to highten the suspense.

I was intrigued by the concept that evil had came from outer space and was trapped here on Earth.  The human's racial memory of it sort of reminds me of          5 Million Years To Earth.

Today we are spoiled by slasher movies.  But this was more of a psychologicol thriller where you didn't have blood splattering everywhere.  You don't need that to build the tension level.  That would have ruined it.  This is more of a period peice.  You could do the movie today with better effects but you couldn't duplicate the chemistry between Lee and Cushing.

I would hate to hear that they were trying to do a remake of this movie.

thank you Dunners and Brad for your input, it seems like you both have a way different view of the film. i've yet to watch it, but i'm sure i'll post my opinion of it when i do (for whatever it's worth).
