Title: So who's all going to go see T3?
Post by: Ash on June 29, 2003, 08:45:32 PM
I for one can't wait!

It looks cool as hell!

I've geared myself up for it by watching original Terminator last night and T2  on Sci-Fi.

I'm a little disappointed that Cameron isn't at the helm this time but hopefully Mostow has been faithful to the franchise.... which I think he has after watching the making of T3.

Are you going to go see it?

well from what I've read the story is really good, the direction is really good, the action scenes are really good and the movie is lots of fun. These were pre screenings I've read from aintitcool.com( submitted by normal people)

and I've read about 9 of them and thats a pretty good indication the movie wont blow.

I will not see this movie. It looks to be an affront to the whole series.

As far as I can tell it is the same old lines "I am an inferior machine" and John Connors isnt in it.

You say that the new director will remain faithful to the franchise but that is a lie. As we all know ONLY 2 terminators were sent through time. Blech.

I'll be checking it out, but not anytime soon.  It seems that a Terminator jumps back to protect John Connor during the Rise of the Machines and a female shapeshifting, super intelligent Terminatrix gives chase.  Expect brainless action, nothing more.

Anyone read the S.M. Stirling books?  They are supposed to be quite good.

Part of me wants to, but I'll probably wait unless I hear really good stuff about it.

On the other hand, I really want to see "League Of Extrordinary Gentlemen" even though I know they mucked around with it compared to the comic series. Plus the last time I put my faith in Sean Connery to go see a summer movie of his I wound up seeing "The Avengers". Could be the same deal here, I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

John Conner IS in it, he's still the main part of the story.

as said in T2 the future is not set yet, and the events of T2 changed the future.

And as a matter of fact there is a lot of intellegence and creativity used here in T3.

here ar e a few tidbits for those who dont know....(Some spoilers)

Conner is a vagrant now, his mother has passed away. HE's erased as much of his records as possible to prevent his prescense to skynet during the future.

The very beggining of the movie starts off with the war of the machines, but something happens...something that wasnt supposed too. EventuallyT-X is sent back in time....But its not after Conner. Since Conner deleted all his personal records Skynet really has no knowledge of him.

it has a different agenda, something much more significant. So schwartzenegger's terminator model is sent to the past, with a different objective as well.

Evetnually they meet, and the T-X finds out Conner is alive and has 2 objectives now. One to kill conner...and one to take out mankind and begin the war of the machines. Unlike the earlier terminators the T-X is also a virus and is taking control of all the machines.

Hows that for a story? I like it, much to my surprise. They've done an admirable job here of generating new ideas and without Cameron at all.

Two things are unique about schwatzeneggers terminator in this one. One, this is NOT the same terminator from T2, and second he is a much more important character, I am upset that I read this spoiler myself and will not repeat it here.

but he is sent back in time(Yes you get to see it happen in the movie) after the war ends...or something. thats what I know and again I've read into the the very begining of the story ( I wish big spoilers were placed aside during reviews, I really do)

But basically we're heading into uncharted territory story wise, plot wise its the same type of situation.

so we'll see, but one thing is for sure, we all wont be bored :D.

I'm there, man.  I saw the preview during "Hulk" and the movie looked solid.  For one thing, Arnie is back as the "good" terminator and perhaps evil as well... We'll see.  I'll have a review in hand later.

I saw a new trailer for it a few days ago and looked impressive. It may not be as good as the others, and Arnold definitely looks old, but I trust Mostow, and the few lines about the story I read on this post look promising. I'm going to watch it for sure.

Title: I'm considering seeing T3

By the looks of the trailers, TERMINATOR 3 looks pretty good. But without James Cameron in the director's seat, can we expect a film that will live up to expectations alongside THE TERMINATOR (1984) and TERMINATOR 2 (1991)? I might go see it, but I still have some doubts.

And frankly, am I the only one here who feels that the first Terminator movie is, and will always be, the best in the series. I just think the second one is way overrated. Hell, WGN has shown TERMINATOR 2 on TV too many times. They need to show the first one, for once.

I agree with you very mcuh on that chris. the second had an interesting story and all, but it was so much rehash from the first. And the pacing was horrible :(

(Nearly) any movie with Ahnuld = I'm there.  A new Terminator movie with Ahnuld = wouldn't miss it for the world.

And Chris, I'm totally with you man.  I try to tell everyone that the first Terminator is better than the second, and they look at me as if I'm delirious.  Don't get me wrong, the second one is great.  But the first was just so much more.. groundbreaking, I guess.  I don't know, it's hard to explain.  I just like the first a little better.

I plan to go see it, probably not the first couple of days as the lines will be rididulous, but in the first week or so. I really like the character of the Terminator so I don't want to wait the 7-8 or more months it will take to hit video.

I'm not quite as optimistic as others though. Arnold is the only person returning from the previous movies, which isn't a good sign. There's another actor playing John, which I hate. Some of the scenes in the ads show him acting fairly un-machine-like, for example, when he huffs out "I am - a machine" like he's having trouble breathing. The few shots I've seen of the T-X endoskeleton, it doesn't look as realistic as the T-800 endoskeletons and it doesn't seen to make sense to have it inside a liquid metal terminator. They've also show at least one shot of her morphing her arm into some kind of weapon using CGI, which I hate. It looks really stupid when something morphs into something else which is 5 times bigger. According to T2, the liquid metal can only form solid shapes, so at most it could form a barrel for an existing weapon, but I suspect T3 will just ignore this.

Finally, I know it's not official since it's not mentioned in the movies, but in the novelizations, which I believe were approved by Cameron (the writer of Terminator co-wrote the novelization), it's said that Sarah Connor lived through judgement day and was actually killed much later by the machines.

It's a good thing that I haven't watched many trailors for this movie so I won't be spoiled like I was for The Matrix:Reloaded.  All of the best scenes for that freakin movie were in the trailor!!!  It wasn't terrible, but it was a disappointment.

T3 had better live up to my expectations though!

Gale Ann Hurd the producer of the previous terminators, co writer of the first terminator and X- Ms. james Cameron is back as producer, Stan Winston  the creature maker himself is back with Terminator designs.

so arnie didnt return alone :)

Also about sarah being dead and all, remember what she said in T2? The future isnt set.

Well thast why what happens in this one happens, the future isnt set. we'll see.

From an article I just read, it sounds like they had the option of getting Edward Furlong back, but the director decided to recast the part!

well I just watched it earlier today, and I'll say it was about as entertaining as the second one. In fact it was almost like watching a remake of the second one with a little more "Arnold' humor thrown in the mix. I dont want to give too much away so I'll just say dont expect too many suprises from this.

I enjoyed it, even though I went into it thinking I wouldn't.  It's mindless but fun.  Had it not had the humorous elements I think I wouldn't have liked it as much, but it seemed like a lot of it was played for laughs right from the getgo.

I agree, the first film is superior because it seemed more horror/SF themed than action themed.    I think I like T3 better than the second.
