Title: Damnation Alley (1977)
Post by: Scott on July 04, 2003, 02:13:29 PM
Here is a real bad movie of bad movies. DAMNATION ALLEY (1977) Starring George Peppard and Jan Micheal Vincent. After a nuclear holocast the survivors encounter large scorpions and deadly roaches. One funny scene is when Vincents character dumps a girl from his motorcycle to get away from the large scorpions and the camera zooms in to show a scorpions crawling on a barbie doll. That is just one example.

You dope! What's going on in that scene is the other characters THINK that Vincent's character has dumped a real girl onto the dunes to be attacked by the scorpions, and then you see (when one character looks through his binoculars), that the "girl" is just one of the department store mannequins!

You have NO idea what you're talking about.

I'm sure your correct Kriegerg, but I couldn't bare much of it and tried to check part here and there. Then I seen the doll (or mannequin). Oppps my mistake.

How about them scorpions?

This movie has never done much for me.  Director Jack Smight (who also helmed Aiport 1975 and Midway I believe - both of which I enjoyed more than this) bascially delivered what looked like a big budget TV movie.  Though having Peppard and Vincent's characters dislike each other thoughout the movie and not falling prey to the 'becoming friends through adversity' angle was refreshing.  I'd probably give it a single slime rating on Andrew's scale though that might change if I saw it in the widescreen format.  But I doubt it.

I saw this one, too, when it was first release to the theaters. One might be interested in knowing that the movie was based on a novel by Roger Zelazny.

Damnation Alley isnt all that bad...

The movie predates Mad Max...

Also, the armor coated cockroaches are very kick ass... just think a whole city controled by armor coated cockroaches...

I do think the movie was a victim of budget funding... and sure enough a remake would be better... :D

I like DAMNATION ALLEY too.  It's terrible, but it's not boring.  And what's not to like about killer cockroaches eating Salt Lake City?

DAMNATION ALLEY is terrible. The rear-projection effects are about as cheesy as you can get. They look like they were from 1957 rather than 1977.

Any movie that includes the words "Starring George Peppard and Jan-Michael Vincent" is destined for the bad movie hall of shame.

Sure it's cheesy, but it's also a lot of fun. Personally, I like the cast of Peppard and Vincent. A pity Paul Winfield was killed off so early, but that is so often the fate of the black guy.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the real star of the picture - the Landmasters.

Heh....the Landmasters realy worked! They were filming in rough terraine, and the big machines were unstoppable. But, the tri-wheel axel was designed for that very purpose! Fast on the flat, yet able to crawl over obsticles, by rolling the three wheel unit over by way of the center axel.
I read an article in Popular science about it. Cool beans.

>Heh....the Landmasters realy worked!

And if I remember correctly, one of them was used as the main vehicle in the Saturday morning kids show Ark II.

I wonder what happened to them...
