Title: B-Movie viewing poll
Post by: The Burgomaster on July 14, 2003, 06:09:00 PM
Have you done most of your B-Movie watching:

1. In theaters
2. At drive-ins
3. On cable television "pay channels" like HBO, Showtime, etc.
4. On "pay per view"
5. On non-pay channels (such as local TV stations)
6. On rented videos
7. On rented DVDs
8. On purchased videos
9. On purchased DVDs
10. Internet downloads
11. Other (explain)

Once we have discovered the answer to this, we will have unlocked the secret to the universe (or something like that).

VHS Rentals because they are now cheap. $2.00 for 5-7days depending on were your renting from. Right now I'm on a Westerns hunt and VHS is the best way to see them for the money and time.

Not sure if you count the Encore and Flix channels as pay channels, but these two seem to be the other channels that I have been able to find rare films from 60's and 70's that I haven't seen.

For "Have done" (past tense), the answer is

5. On non-pay channels (such as local TV stations)

because I've had that medium for a lot longer than the others.  But I think for a while I experienced B movies more through printed media (magazines) than through the local tube.  And the local tube isn't my first choice for B movies today.

Hope that made SOME sense.

Purchased videos and DVDs. I hardly ever rent anymore, mainly since the kind of stuff I watch isn't exactly the kind of thing you find at Blockbuster. I may have to get back into the habit, though, since I'm about to become a broke college student.

I notice that if I make a list, I manage to find something that wasn't on my list for viewing.

Netflix is the place to go for hard to find movie rentals. Great B- horror/sci-fi films available. If I could spend the extra money I would do it again. Then again if I had the money I'd just buy them for my collection.

i was lucky enough to find a video rental store/hardware store a year ago in new zealand that seemed to be untouched by the hands of time.

needless to say i was in B movie heaven, and if it wasn't for the fact that i was pretty much flat broke and had no room to pack any extra weight in my bag, i would have taken the whole store home with me. films like Masters of the Universe for the measly price of NZ$2 made me a very happy man!

I've done most of my viewing on rented VHS.  Why is it that the store clerk always looks at me like I'm a freak when I rent these? I guess they think a 28 year old woman couldn't possibly be into this stuff, who looks somewhat normal.  I guess.  Anyhoo, I got you all beat so far, I rent 4 vids for $1 and I get to keep em a week.  I'm going back to that because buying DVD's on Ebay has nearly killed my bank account.  HE HE.  Sucks to be poor.  Showtime Beyond isn't bad either, as far as cable goes.  I've recently seen Invasion of the Bee Girls and Deadly Eyes.  But overall , cable sucks.  200 channels and nothing on.  I'm on a roll, better stop.

A lot I have seen on the cable channels, but overall I would say by far video and dvd purchases. I cannot help myself when it comes to buying a B movie. Regardless of how bad it is.

purchased vhs and dvd. majority on used vhs. most were bought when video stores purged their old tapes to make way for dvd. back when you could still find gems for 1 or 2 bucks a piece.
