Title: Absolutely Not!

Hell no!

Almost ALL of the original Sci-Fi movies are crap!!

I personally do not see how a person would want to waste their time watching the drivel that Sci-Fi puts out.

Not only that but Sci-Fi seems to have more commercial breaks AND more commercials than any other network.
Usually a break every 10 minutes.

While watching something on it(I can't remember what it was) I counted 15 commercials in a single break!
No joke!

The only things worth watching on it are the old Twilight Zone, Outer Limits & Star Trek episodes.

Basically anything Sci-Fi DIDN'T produce.

Funny thing is most of them aren't even Sci-Fi originals, but B-movies you can already buy before they come out on Sci-Fi.

Yes, most of the "SciFi Originals" are just movies they bought the rights to. You can usually tell by the blanking out of the swears and the cuts for violence/gore.

Occasionally, one of their movies will be watchable, but most are crap.

Momentum with Louis Gosset Jr. wasn't bad.

It's arguably at least more entertaining than watch the drivel that most stations put out.

i thought this was a bad movie board!
just the other night i was webcamming with a friend in VA and we were watching the sci-fi channel and laughing about the movies.  his was about 2 hours ahead of mine, so we put cams to tvs to watched one another's movies.  and i recall saying "oh man, this movie is BAD!  i love it!"

so hurrah for bad movies, right?
or am i totally off track here?

i like Scare Tactics.  yeah yeah it's a horrible thing to do to someone, but lord, it is so funny!

and i like their version of "in search of"

It is, that's why the trash that sci-fi puts on (in terms of stuff like "Interceptor Force" and "Tracker") is pretty entertaining to me.

It's the junk like "Crossing Over", "Scare Tactics" and four-hundred episode's a week of "X-Files" that drives me nuts.  There's room for good scfi-fi and silly sci-fi and plenty of material for both

and i recall saying "oh man, this movie is BAD! i love it!"

Care to share with us what movie that was?

I like Scare Tactics. yeah yeah it's a horrible thing to do to someone..

at best they look pretty staged and at worse they're risking some serious injury or a lawsuit or both

Its strange that a network that prides its self on the sci-fi and horror genras premiers such bad movies on there network. There are a few sci-fi originals that were decent as I remeber;Habitat,Dune, Children of Dune, there was another that was ok I think it was called A town that turned to dust. But not to long ago on another network I think it was usa or tnt they made a pretty good movie based off of the book Lathe of Heaven.Ive never read the book but the movie was pretty good.

Title: It's A Shame
Post by: Ash on July 29, 2003, 03:31:01 AM
It's a shame.

Obviously by reading the responses on this particular thread most people agree that Sci-Fi for the most part.....SUCKS!

Sci-Fi could be so good!

Ultimately to blame are the bigwigs sitting in the cushy offices that are choosing what to play on this channel.

These executives have obviously forgotten what the phrase "Sci-Fi" means.

I mean...they showed "Clan of the Cave Bear" the other day!

I think that they're taking the term "Science" a little too seriously by definition as to include ALL types of sciences. (such as evolution etc...)

C'mon!  When I hear the phrase "Sci-Fi" I think outer space, aliens & laser guns!  Don't you?
The first image that comes to my mind is the blackness of space with stars in the backdrop.

It needs to be handed back to the "Average Joes" like us to bring it back to it's roots and a fresh start.

Imagine if this group of regulars on here had control of that channel!

It would be AWESOME!!

All the "specialty" channels use broad definitions and loose criteria for what they show. They start out with good intentions, then they start to slip. Last night, Scream was showing Rising Sun for crying out loud. Other times, it's been reruns of Twin Peaks and other crap. How about a nice horror film?

I don't get the Sci-fi Channel, but I get the Canadian equivalent, Space. The channel is even called Space, and you'd be hard pressed to find a space movie on it.

I find myself watching Drive-In Classics for stuff that should be on the other two channels.

>and i like their version of "in search of"

Ugh! It should have the full title of The Weekly World News Presents: In Search Of. "Tonight on In Search Of we go looking for the demon baby of Ohio who has been terrorizing residents there for over 200 years, then we'll meet a man who can tunr himself inside out..."

>I think it was usa or tnt they made a pretty good movie based off of the book
>Lathe of Heaven.

Have you ever seen the original version?

Sci Fi Originals would improve if they chose ANY other production team to buy rights in bulk.  And I'm not talking about their Full Moon features, a few of those have enough cheese value to pull you through the suffering.

I'm talking this "Dragon Hunter"  "Interceptor Force" "Python" team that makes the same, dull, corridor crawl time and time again.

If only Sci Fi would spring for the good stuff more often, like Dog Soldiers.  Then it might not be known as the channel on your lineup that disappoints most often...

That would be "United Film Organization" or "U.F.O."

I can sum up Sci-Fi "originals" in one word:

Evolver.

The people responsible for that piece of crap should be forced to watch The Pest until their eyes bleed.

I saw a movie called "Dog Soldiers" that was pretty good. A werewolf movie. I saw it at Blockbusters. Its gory but fun.
