Saw this one years ago on late night television. I should slap myself for even remembering it. Horribly bad, but may be worthy of a review in your unique and hilarious style.
riffed the hell out of this hard bitter little knocker of a movie. And it was HILARIOUS, the movie itself is still pretty bad but it mains it less painfull.
There are two films with nearly the same names here. One is "Lost Continent," which MST3K made famous as "the rock climbing movie."
Then there is "The Lost Continent." This film is a weird one made by Hammer. Imagine a vast sargasso sea with hundreds of ships trapped. Also imagine a society of people who live there and some very large crustaceans and tentacled beasts. One awesomely funny plot point is how the natives get around. They wear snowshoes and attach balloons to their bodies so they can walk on the seaweed surface.
I was gonna ask which of the two you ment, also. The hammer flick has MUCH more pro acting...but the story is ripe for riffing....read agine what Andrew wrote...."Baloons over the Sargasso...a quin martin production!"
Seen both of them. Prefer the "rock climbing" version myself.
I prefer the 1968 Hammer picture myself. It's totally weird but never boring. Best line is when the ship is trapped in the mat of seaweed and the captain says, "Now we go where the weed takes us." Considering the trippy nature of this movie, maybe he didn't mean seaweed.
I laughed my a$$ off at the MST3K version. Ya know, I bet they got the line 'Monkey Boy' for Sid Melton's character from BUCKAROO BANZI's Prof. Lizardo.
"Laugh-a while you can, Monkey-a boy!"
