Title: Carded for movies???
Post by: Neon Noodle on August 10, 2003, 03:04:02 PM
The only movie I can ever remember being carded for was Wes Craven's "Shocker".

The women who were running the ticket booth that night probably wanted to keep out the miscreant youths - but my friends and I ended up getting in anyway.

What other folks have been carded, and for what films?

I can remember being 16 and having a another 16 year old and his girlfriend coming up to me and asking if I'd buy their tickets for something R rated. I guess I looked old even then.

A few times when I was under age, I was refused admission to R-rated movies. Once was when I tried to see DRESSED TO KILL. Another time was when I went to see THE LEGACY (but I snuck in anyway). I'm sure there were a few other times, but I can't remember them.

Also, I went to see THE ISLAND twice, and I had no problem getting in. I tried to see it a 3rd time (God only knows why), and the SAME cashier at the SAME theater wouldn't let me in! After she had already let me in to see it twice!

I'm 39 years old. I wish someone would card me now. It would make me feel good.

Some kids wanted me to get their tickets for them to see THE FACULTY.  I tried but they made the mistake of trying to use their student IDs to get a discount--I wasn't seeing the same movie so they wouldn't let me get the tickets.

I only bought tickets for under-age kids once. They were about 12  years old and they wanted to see FRIDAY THE 13TH, PART 3 in 3-D. They offered to pay me, but I did it for free (out of the kindness of my movie-loving heart). The cashier knew that they weren't really with me, so she told me that I would be responsible if they did anything wrong. Luckily, they were well-behaved.

I've never been carded for the movies.  Beer, yes, movies, no.

I had a friend in High School who, at 17 years of age, got carded going into a PG-13 flick.  She cried for an hour.

Title: FREDDY GOT FINGERED: Interesting situation
Post by: Chris K. on August 11, 2003, 11:49:18 PM
When my friend Dennis and I went to see FREDDY GOT FINGERED, we had an interesting experience. I was 17 at the time, so I was able to go see the film on my own. But my friend Dennis was 16, but it wasn't too much of a problem getting a ticket. When we were in the theatre and sat down, along came in a well-dressed man and two police officers. Everybody was asked to show their purchased ticket and after that the well-dressed man said that nothing ws wrong, but he wanted to make sure that some people were "of age" and that nobody snuck in.

Looking back on it, I could see the guy was concerned. But two police officers? I don't think sneaking in a movie theatre is much of a punnishable crime, or at least to my knowledge. And when the movie started I did wish the two cops would have carried me out during the first 15 minutes of that awful movie.

I think I was 17, and  I don't remember which movie it was, but I was so p**sed off, cuz I know I really wanted to see it.  Now if I get carded for beer, I thank the person.  I'm 28 now.

From what I've read, the movie ratings aren't legally enforcable, it's just a voluntary system that most theaters follow.

True - more than likely it's to keep parents from having to explain things like sex and swearing to their kids. I recall that THE MATRIX was slammed hard because of the whole incident at Columbine with the "Trenchcoat Mafia". Apparently the kids behind the tragedy were real fans. I was surprised a lawsuit never came up.
