I accidentaly bought this movie, and I finished watching it yesterday, and IT ROCKS!
Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery are great and so is the villain,Kurgan.
What do you think?
I absolutely cannot stand any of the Highlander films.
I've given each of them a try and have never finished watching a single one.
I usually last about 45 minutes to an hour before I either leave the room or get up and shut off the movie.
UUGGHH!!!!
Don´t judge the whole series on ONE bad entry(Highlander 2:The Sickening).
Have any of you viewed the Renegade Version of Highlander 2? I've heard that it is a radically different cut of the film and how Russell Mulcahy wanted it to be.
Personally, I can't stand any of the Highlander movies, and I have Christopher Lambert to blame for it!!!! I cannot stand the guy! His acting is HORRIBLE!!!! He ruins every movie he's in!!!! I wanted to love Highlander and Greystoke, but Lambert's acting just would NOT let me!!!!
FWIW, I will usually pick up a movie just because Lambert's in it ("Beowulf" comes to mind, also Fortess and Fortress II
(Yes, I'm "Fearless Freep"...just haven't bothered to login on this browser 'cause I don't use it often)
I remember watching the first "Highlander" as a child and loving it, but I rented it a few years ago and didn't like it at all. Can't tell exactly why, but I found the whole thing quite silly. Maybe the cheesy FX or Lambert had something to do with it. I liked Connery and the scenes set in ancient Scotland, though.
Anybody seen "Highlander IV"? Any good? I sort of liked "Highlander II" (yes, I know what that implies about my taste), but watching "Highlander III" was beyond painful.
Has anyone seen the highlander TV series? i couldn't believe they made one: they just keep adding more and more people to fight in order to justify the continuation of the serires, i think its kinda riduculous. [haven't seen the tv show, so i'm not sure how they worked it out]
and i didnt think number two was too bad. damn, someone please hurt me lots.
Paul, sounds like you need some support. So here it is.
I absolutely LOVE the first Highlander. It's lyrical, exciting, mythic, tragic....
As far as I'm concerned it's the definitive Other Version of Joseph Campbell's "Hero" myth (the first one being Star Wars), that appeals perfectly to introverted teenaged boys. (Not that that's the only people it appeals to...)
I think this is one of the most overrated movies I have ever seen. Christopher Lambert is a terrible actor and Russell Mulcahey is a terrible director. The dvd is great however, because you can read the screenplay, plus correspondence that went back & forth between the filmmakers and Sean Connery before production started.
First off I have to say that I love the first Highlander film. As a fan of "mythical" stories, sword fighting, and JUST about anything to do with Connery (Zardoz is a iffy) this movie is great. That said, the sequels leave something to be desired.
Also, for those of you that might not have had the pleasure/pain of seeing the original cut of Highlander II (and by that I mean the one first released to theaters) let me fill you in to a few things that might make you laugh or cry.
The original premise for the movie was to reveal that the Immortals were immortal because they were in fact not natives of Earth... that’s right, they are aliens! The movie shows a flashback scene were MacLeod (Lambert) and RamÃrez (Connery) lived on a planet called Ziest. Both men were in a resistance group whose aim was to overthrow the current leader of Ziest, Gen. Katana. They are caught and "exiled" to a distant planet called Earth. There they would partake in a game with other exiles to win a prize. So in a since, their immortality is explained in the fact that as long as they are on Earth they cannot die. The prize is that the last survivor can either return to Ziest or become mortal and live out his life on Earth. The movie explains that Kurgan from the first film was sent from Ziest to kill Conner by Gen. Katana. When he failed (Kurgan’s fall is seen on a TV like monitor), Katana sends two assassins to finish the job. They wait until the year 2024, when MacLeod is an old man, to attack. When the two assassins fail, Katana takes matters into his own hands. It is ironic that the Ozone Shield is actually a minor plot point in the original version.
There have been a few "remakes" of the film. The first was to cut out all mention of the planet Ziest what so ever. This greatly diminished the film, as plots appeared as big as Mac trucks. No explanation was given for why immortals suddenly “transport†to Earth to attack Conner after he won the prize, or even why they are riding hover boards or shooting lasers.
Then the "renegade" version came along and tried to fix the movies mistakes. They tried to play off the flashbacks of Ziest as being in the distant past. MacLeod and RamÃrez are exiled to the FUTURE in this adaptation. They explain that MacLeod loses his memory of the game until RamÃrez finds him in the first movie. They state that Katana and his goons travel into the future to exact revenge on Conner. This version does a better job of filling in the plot holes than all other versions before it but is still lacking.
As a die-hard "Bad Movie" fan I have to admit that I enjoy the original version of Highlander II. Plus I find it extremely hilarious how they keep trying to fix it. But for the people out there who think it sucks I offer a bit of advise on a way to better enjoy the Highlander franchise. Don't look at each movie being a direct squeal to the previous film. Instead, look at each film as a separate movie that just "uses" the Highlander theme. That way you won't spend 2 hours going "what?" or "wait I thought he won the prize in the last film".
Has anyone seen the highlander TV series?
Yes, I've seen most of them. They're actually very good. They sorta just ignore the ending of the first movie and bring in Adrian Paul to play "Duncun MacLeod", as another scottish immortal who's related to Conner (and Lambert does make a few cameos). They do a good job of addressing some of the issues of living an immortal lifestyle. Adrian Paul is a much better fighter than Chistopher Lambert. I don't seem to remember if they actually ended it or it just sorta ran out of steam.
The fouth Highlander movie, "End Game" includes both Paul and Lambert and seems a continuation/conclusion of the TV series line.
I'm a huge fan of Highlander: The Series! I've seen nearly all of the episodes, and I highly recommend it, especially to people who don't like the movies!!
I don't think Lambert could've carred the TV series. He's just odd enough that I think it would grow thin. Plus, he works best when he's a bit mysterious and you don't really get in his mind. Duncun MacLeod, because of how the series went, had to be much more open with who he was and how both his Scottish heritage and his immortal identity affected him. I think Adrian Paul did a great job, and having seen him in otrgher stuff, I think it's his best work
Did you like Adrian in"Highlander:Endgame"?
I never saw Endgame. I didn't want to see it after I found out Lambert was going to be in it. IMHO, Connor was such an inconsequential crossover between the movies and the tv series, and Endgame should have only focused on the tv series.
BULLs**t!
Hey man, that was REALLY uncalled for. I did say IN MY HONEST OPINION (and yes I meant to scream). It's my opinion. You can say bs all you want, but I want you to tell me WHY it's bs.
