Title: Most Intense Edge of Your Seat Scene!
Post by: Ash on September 09, 2003, 02:22:59 AM
I was wondering what you personally feel is the most intense edge of your seat scene in a movie.
Is there any one scene that sticks out in your mind and no matter how many times you see it, you are always into it as if its the first time you ever saw it.

I'm talking pulse pounding, leaning foward towards the screen into it.

I just watched it again today and I'd have to say for me...

The opening scene in "Cliffhanger".

No matter how namy times I watch it, I am absolutely riveted!

What's yours?

The scene in Signs were the family is trapped in the basement and the aliens were trying to get in was very suspenceful.
The final scene in 28 days later were they are all in the mansion and the infected were running around killing every one was f**king awsome.
In the Animatrix I thought that the Second Renasance part 2 was very suspenseful.

Black Christmas... the main character opens the door and finds dead bodies in the room, and on the other side of the door she sees the killers eye, looking at her.

Torso... Main character find her friends dead in the front room, and the killer enter the room. She hides behind a couch and watches the killer chop up her friends.

Dawn of the Dead... the guys are jumping from truck to truck, as the zombies are crowding around the truck.

The Thing... They are testing the blood with a heated wire.

Alien, when you didn't know whether it was the cat or the creature right around the corner, though I did jump at the ending of Carrie.

i agree with signs, at the cinema i was riveted, and i enjoyed it thoroughly.  on a similar feeling we've got the remake of the ring, the end of that movie was great as well, though i already knew what was going to happen [i had seen the original many years ago] i was still stuck to my seat.

another fav of mine is the opera scene in the fifth element, not really intense edge of your seat stuff, i just love that scene for some reason [probably the music, i love that song] and i'm captivated for that entire scene.

The "Sister Christian" scene in Boogie Nights where they're at that crazy cokehead's mansion and you know something really bad is about to happen.

I also agree on the Boogie Nights suggestion.

That chinese kid lighting firecrackers with all those loud BANGS!! made it pretty intense.

In the movie Insomnia, the chase on top of logs floating on a river was so well done.

The climax of the Omen, when he returns to the house alone, is so scary, it really had me on the edge. I know a lot of other movies have done it, but none jump to mind now, although the Ring had its moments too.

Gotta agree with Cliffhanger.  A very cool intro to a movie.

Also, the scene in Cube when the people are going through the room and they can't make any sounds or else the trap will go off.  That was pretty intense.

Recently saw the original Die Hard for the first time.   Yeah, I know, I'm a decade and a half behind everyone else.

The scene where Bruce Willis is hanging in the shaft being held up by his machine gun is freaking intense!  Especially when the gun fails to hold.  Fantastic!

"Recently saw the original Die Hard for the first time"

skaboi, you must have been deprived for not seeing this classic! its a fun movie that really isn't great, but has cult status in my mind.

speaking of deprived, my girlfriend recently confessed to not seeing any one of the star wars, or indiana jones films.  i almost had a heart attack and am seriously considering forcing her to watch them all.

There are countless scenes in movies that have had me on the edge of my seat because of their intensity. I don't know about any of you, but some types of scenes have me on the edge of my seat are so-called 'romantic' scenes that aren't so romantic, but that have a dangerous sensuality. The kind where the characters are all wrong for each other or are cheating or you just can't believe what's going on because you didn't see it coming.

My dad was so disgusted by that scene he had to FF the dvd to see if the movie got any better. Personally, I didn't have any problems with it.

<< (after that well it dulls)>>

Excuse me, but what are you on? RD has to be one of the least boring or dull movies from the '90s I've ever seen!

The first time I saw "Trainspotting".
At the end of the film, Renton is trying to take the bagful of money from under a sleeping, psychotic Begbie's arm.

My heart was pounding as hard as the techno music was playing!

They dive down as deep as they can go. Depth charges explode and then fade away. Deeper and the hull creaks, rivets pop. Will it hold? A little deeper. Just a bit more and we're watching those rivets. *BAM!* a depth charge goes off and I think to myself "dam, they got us".

The films shifts the focus so wonderfully to the dangers of diving that you forget about the destroyer over head for a moment and they really catch you with that explosion that seems to come out of nowhere.
And they do it in such a short period of time. So well done.

The scene in Aliens when the survivors think that the scanner is malfuntioning but they realise that the aliens are coming at em through the ceiling. The shot of the alien horde coming towards Hicks always puts the s**ts up me

I remember my mother and aunt both watching the first Speed (off thought, all three major scenes in that movie were intense). This was during the famous bus scene, and while the bus was rolling down the street, the old woman with a baby carridge was crossing the street.  As the bus hit that carridge with full force, both my mom and aunt had their hands on the mouth, eyes buldging, saying "Oh my God!" thinking there was an actual baby in there.  Only, once the stroller hit the ground, soda cans spread all over the street.  That was the funniest thing I saw.
