I just got off my english class and we had to do a speech about ourself and make a poster/roadmap thing. I started off the speech by asking "We're asked all the time what we want to be when we grow up, some say they want to be an Astronaut, An Basketball Player, or maybe serve in the military. For most of the time I wanted ,and still do, to be a comic book artist."
So I thought this might be a nice topic, did you change?, did you get to be what you wanted?
-the first rule of fat club-
Put me down as one of those who wanted to be an astronaut. This was around the time of the moon launches, so I guess it was inevitable. However, it seems that they have some silly requirements of good eyesight, physical fitness, and an ability to do math. Oh well, I guess it just means I don't get to run into the evil space monsters.
I'm still looking for a job as a millionaire.
Astronaut for me too. Like raj, that dream died for me when I got old enough to understand just what was required. All the university degrees and flying experience and outstanding physical fitness seemed kind of unreasonable to a little kid weaned on sci-fi.
That was followed, around grade 7, by a dream of being a computer programmer, which suffered the same fate of reality not quite measuring up to fantasy. I could write some neat stuff on a TRS-80, but that wasn't going to cut it.
By high school, I was going to be an electrician, and I learned quite a few skills that I still use. After graduation, I tested to be a cop, but they weren't hiring many at the time. I finally went into journalism.
When I compare my present income with that of friends who actually did become electricians, I want to kick myself.
My obsession with G.I. Joe toys when I was a kid in the early 80's always made me dream about being a 4 star general who commanded an entire army!

I wanted to be rich. Hasn't happened yet. :)
I had dreams of being a freelance photographer for National Geographic. I was a Telemarketer for 20+ years. Now I am a cashier/photo tech for a drug store chain.
What didn't a kid want to be when they grew up? I thought I would be an explorer, an archeologist, an inventor, a filmmaker, work with animals, be wealthy. Of course I was also under the demented impression that if you believed hard enough you could stick your hand through the television and go into a magical world where you could be in any movie you wanted.
The kid in me would still rather step into a movie than become an archeologist. I guess magic always appealed to me over reality...the impossible was always more intriguing.
i'm never going to grow up! :P
away tinkerbell away...
I've never known what I liked to be. Really. I still phantasise now and then of becoming a film director, not even a respected one, a B-Movie artisan would be enough.

I always wanted to be a paleontologist.

Fascinating, I always wanted to be a paleontologist too, I thought I was the only one....
I also wanted to be a cartoon voice over person for awhile. And of course a comic book writer....
I also wanted to be a lawyer (yeah, I was/am a strange kid) in Eternia.... where He-Man lives.... just imagine "Mr. Skeletor, is it true that you owe Beast Man 20 dollars from a game of Bacharrat... Need I remind you that you are under oath.." Imagine all of the assault and battery cases I could try.
But I am still in college, and am honestly thinking of trying to break into the novel business, and from their, the film world.....
