Title: Mark of the Astro-Zombies
Post by: Andrew on September 21, 2003, 08:55:05 PM
Well, the latest review for a screener sent to me has been posted.  Mixed bag of nuts, this one, and not all were nuts that I like to eat anyway.

just curious, how often do you get screeners?

I stopped accepting them a few months ago, because I was actually getting about one per week (plus, the move and all).  The submissions quickly outpaced my ability to review them in a timely manner.  Only about 6 more to review before the backlog is gone...

A sequel of sorts to one of the worst things ever burned onto celluloid.  Wayne Rogers is credited as co-writer and -producer of the original Astro Zombies, and from what I understand he is still defending his actions.  As for John Carradine, this as with Wizard of Mars just proves that age does not always impart great wisdom.

Oh, yeah. Sad that, as 'Ol John was a goodin'.
Man....the years have not been kind to Tura S, have they? Still, she never has to worry about drowning....
Its not so much clevage, as a study in spherical geometry

Most of Tura's weight gain came about when she was hospitalized after an angry ex-boyfriend shot her in the stomach and damaged to her spine.  This was in the 1980s and she wasn't expected to be able to walk again.

She went on the Atkins Diet after "Mark of the Astro-Zombies" and has lost over 30 lbs. so far.  Tura's a lot of fun to be around and nothing like her 'b***hy' film persona.

September 11th, 2001 occurred right in the middle of the "Mark of the Astro-Zombies" shoot.  Tura was the only person who practically DEMANDED to go to the Red Cross and donate blood (she's a regular blood donor).  She is a very loving person.

I was fortunate enough to be at this film's world premiere, for it was a real blast seeing all of the mayhem, and major cheesiness on the big screen(even if it played at the local library,as its premiere spot).

KINGDINOSAUR :  Shot? I did not know that. Wow. Glad she was able to walk agine.
Glad she's another success for the Atkins diet, as i'm on that too! Lost 21lbs in 6 weeks. down from 428 to 407, so i know how it feels to  have gravity as your enemy.
No suprised she is different from her film persona. Boris Karloff was one of those too. A kind English gentleman off screen, but able to put the scare to ya when on camera.

I noticed in the MOTAZ review comment section someone mentioning more than a passing resemblance to Jason Voorhees of the "Halloween" movie series.  A few hardcore schlock fans saw the connection a couple of decades back, but it doesn't get mentioned much.  The Mikels' movie that always pops up as being copied is "The Doll Squad".  "Charlie's Angels" appeared on television a couple of years after Ted's movie came out.

Just making sure young horror fans know that the original "The Astro-Zombies" came out 10 years before "Halloween".

Oh!   And Bob Segar came out with "Turn the Page" well before Metallica.
