For the last three weeks or so I've been trying to fit in time to watch "Escape from New York" The first weekend, I rented this and "La Femme Nikita" I watched "La Femme Nikita" but I didn't watch "Escape from New York". The weekend after that I re-rented "EfNY" and "Conan the Barbarian" I watched "Conan the Barbarian" at my house (I rented it just to hear the music again, man that music kicks ass, so does the action) On Saturday I visited my grandma and thought about bringing a video game with me then I thought "naw it would just distract me from Drawing and "EfNY" so I left my brothers PlayStation 2 at my house. Then when I got to my grandma's house I was ready to watch "EfNY" I dumbed all the stuff out of my bag and was like "what the f*$^ was thinking when I decided not to bring the PS2 to this house" so spent the whole night drawing infront of the t.v.
So finally yesterday at my grandma's house I watched the movie and it was awesome...OH YEAH worth the wait. Has this ever happened to you?
-the first rule of fat club-
No.
Never watched a movie at your grandmother's house, so I guess not.
Sure, whenever I want to see a movie (usually after everybody raves about it) and it is not sci-fi, horror or a thriller (my regular genres), I find all sorts of stuff to do instead of watching it. When I finally watch it I use to call myself all sorts of names for doing all that silly stuff instead of watching the damn movie. Last known case was "Chicago". If you can think of any movie character who does the same, we could name the syndrome after them.
Well, ANDROMEDA STRAIN is one of those films I put off for along time and just watched it today and thought it was great.
CONAN THE BARBARIAN is one of the all time great movies. The sequel CONAN THE DESTROYER was a big let down.
ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is good. Note to wrestling fans the opponent in the ring agains Snake Pliskin was Pro Wrester Ox Baker. He wrestled in the 70's and early 80's.
CHICAGO for some reason I have no interest in seeing. Tell me more Neville.
"Chicago" is one of the best movies released last year, if not the best movie. It is a musical, right, so expect the actors to sing and dance almost on every crucial scene. What I like of it is, that despite being a musical, the musical numbers are not forced. They are edited in parallel to "realistic scenes", so you never have the impression the movie stops to let the actors sing. The numbers are also very inventive, and they are closely related to what's going on. These, some great songs and a really tight editing (the movie is really fast paced) make it the most successful and entertainning musical I've ever seen. Note that I've not seen that many, I have some kind of alergia against the genre, probably because I saw "Xanadu" as a kid.
So, if you want my advice, rent it right now, it doesn't matter if you don't like musicals.
I got the multi-disc director's extra special version of Fellowship of the Ring for Christmas, still haven't watched it. Been meaning to, but most Sundays the weather was good, or else there was a good ballgame on, and it's too long for weeknights, and Saturdays I'm busy, and. . .
I'll try to catch CHICAGO soon. Some musicals that I have liked are:
West Side Story
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Man of La Mancha
Pirates of Penzence (something like that, I think it was filmed in the early 80's)
Wille Wonka
Many times I can't finish a film. Especially if its one TV.
I do that with stuff I've taped. I'll put off watching it and when I finally do, I really enjoy it.
