Title: The Cowboys (1971)
Post by: Scott on September 27, 2003, 10:38:48 PM
THE COWBOYS (1971) - This is another great Western starring John Wayne and as usual he puts something into it. The opening music and story of youths on a cattle drive really come together in this film. This seems to be an original type Western. You can also see Bruce Dern and Slim Pickens in this one.

Really hated this one. Only good thing about it was Bruce Dern. And, please, don't make me think of the philosophical implications of the plot.

This is one of my favorite westerns. It's not a classic like SHANE, RIO BRAVO or THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE, but it is very watchable (I've probably seen it at least 10 or 12 times).

Plus, it is one of Bruce Dern's finest performances.

I always liked this one a lot. An atypical western for Wayne storywise and not a regular boys adventure either although it does get kind of sentimental at times.

Besides Dern's great work at being creepy, something he can do in his sleep, Great character work from Roscoe Lee Browne as well.

"Well, I have the inclination, the maturity, and the where-with-all, but unfortunately, I don't have the time." Always loved that line.
