Title: PSYCH-OUT and THE TRIP
Post by: The Burgomaster on September 29, 2003, 10:16:59 AM
Here is a great DVD double feature. Two classic psychedelic drug movies from the 1960s!

And look at the great casting (to name only a few):

PSYCH-OUT:

* Jack Nicholson
* Susan Strasberg
* Adam Roarke
* Bruce Dern
* Max Julien

THE TRIP:

* Peter Fonda
* Bruce Dern
* Dennis Hopper
* Susan Strasberg

Get out your tie-dye shirts and love beads, sit back, and relax! And the DVD costs less than $10!

Bought this one among a bunch of other horror and genre flicks during my last big blitz at Best Buy.

I love the featurette documentaries concerning both movies. Especially the stories from Bruce Dern about how he was the "normal" guy on set because didn't use drugs like that in real life. And Roger Corman describing his acid trip involving seeing through the earth and channeling your thoughts and visions to anyone else who was lying on the ground with their face buried in the dirt at the same time.

I like the psychedelic light box feature playing on a loop as well. I may have to loan the disc to some of my stoner friends just to see what they make of that feature.

I've had it for awhile. I watched psych-out about 3 or 4 times, the Trip twice. Psych-out is much better so I'm just warning you before hand. The Trip is just an hour and a half of, well um, an LSD trip pretty much because there isn't much more to it than that besides maybe the Electric Flag (their first recordings supposedly- I have the soundtrack too.) It would be cool if they made a movie like this with Syd Barrett (of Pink Floyd.) Psych-Out I sent Andrew a review for back in August, hope its good enough to be up on here eventually. The Seeds and the Strawberry Alarm Clock are in it. Watch how in the Strawberry Alarm Clock scene (where they're playing Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow) how the band's clothes magically change in the next shot. Also watch how Nicholson plays the guitar magically without moving his fingers (or sometimes without even picking it up.) I have the soundtrack to Psych-Out too but its LP sourced, never made it to cd unfortunately so its pretty rare. Ashbury Wednesday, the backwards purple haze ripoff Mumblin' Jim play in the movie is hilarious. Stoney Forever! Too bad Haight-Ashbury is a dump now.
