Title: Lack of participation
Post by: The Burgomaster on October 08, 2003, 03:37:30 PM
Is it my imagination, or is participation in this forum slowing down? It also appears that we are running out of really good, thought provoking topics to discuss. Have we beat these subjects to death, or are we just losing our creativity? I seem to remember a lot of hilarious threads a few months ago. They seemed to generate dozens and dozens of responses. It seems like that doesn't happen much anymore.

I just don't feel the love anymore . . .

I've gotten busier at work, and am out doing things on weekends (at least until the snows come).

I agree the boards do seem slow and i myself really dont post that. I thought a few months ago the boards were slow too but then seemed to pick up some speed. Maybe it just goes in cycles.

Hummm....
There is some truth to it.
I think our days jobs do get in the way, sometimes. And, after a while, we can get "zoned" for a while.
Still, a break can help you clear out the cobwebs, and after a while,  return to a comfortable state of insanity...

Run out of good ideas to chat about?
Not me!

I like to break the monotony by posting goofy "Off Topic" stuff.  Which you've all probably noticed lately.

I myself hadn't noticed any slowdown on this board.

It was slow for a while, but I think it's been picking up lately. Boards in general seem to slow down in the summer. I'd say the latest batch of topics are pretty good. I mean there are some that do get posted every few months, like "what is the worst movie of all time?" There are a few that don't interest me at all. However, I am finding enough that do.

I must admit, we could use a few more really good B-movie exercises. One of my all-time favourites was changing one letter in a title to make a new, funnier title. Classic.

I haven't been posting this week because I lost my password and when Andrew sent me a new one my computer deleted my mail. Now I have to wait for a new password again, but this time I will write it down till I can get my computer to save my passwords and mail again. I think I deleted cookie files and it deleted everthing. Not sure how that works though.

By the way when I get my usual "name" back I have 11 films to post about. The movie marathon continued all week even without my password.

I will take part of the blame for being a poor host of late.  I show up far too rarely, but have been so busy.  I think that, come January, I will let out a big sigh of relief.  Toys for Tots will be over, my unit's inspections will be over, our house in GA will be sold, and we should finally have finished up the work of getting reimbursed for our gear that was damaged in the move.  (They destroyed my table saw, among other things.  How do you crack a 250 lb chunk of metal?)

That's ok Andrew. Thanks for being patient and providing us with an excellent site for our favorite stuff.

Yeah, maybe things have slowed down lately. Hope it is only for a while.

I've only been semi-employed for the last few months so I have not been renting any movies so I have kess to talk about in terms of original material

I moved cross-country last week and am only now settled in.  I have a job prospect, but it looks like I'll probably be unemployed for at least the next month or so.

Still, I have money saved up from my previous job, computer access, and cable so hopefully I'll be able to pitch in a little more from now on.

The move went fairly well....the days leading up to it were awful, but once we actually got going it was pretty smooth.  We kept having to take carloads of stuff to my parents', which is about 90 minutes away.  What a hassle....we spent almost as much time doing that as we did driving for the move itself.

I have to assume that these things do indeed go in cycles like pretty much everything else in life.
My personal reason for not being as active is that for some freakish reason my computer at college absolutely refuses to acknowledge that Andrew's server exists.  I can get to it in the library but I'm in there very infrequently and have been insanely busy with class work the last few weeks (Hemingway, by the way, is one of the worst writers I have ever read and have no idea how he became so well loved let alone won a damn Nobel Prize).  I used to check and post on this board several times a day all through last school year, and now with my access so limited I usually only post on the weekends when I'm at home.  This being one of my major sources of sanity and distraction during the week, the loss is pretty tough.  I have noticed when I get on here that there are fewer replied-to topics even after several days that there used to be in one day, though.
